Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (known in Japan as Mario & Luigi: Paper Mario MIX and in Europe/Australia as Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros.) is a Super Mario RPG that was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. It is the fifth game of the Mario & Luigi subseries and acts as a crossover between it and the other ongoing Mario RPG subseries: Paper Mario.

Story[edit]

Luigi accidentally knocks over a mysterious book within Peach's library, which causes the inhabitants of the Paper Mario world to be freed from the book and spread across this version of the Mushroom Kingdom. The two versions of Bowser team up, kidnapping both versions of Peach. Mario and Luigi team up with Paper Mario to embark on a quest to defeat the two Koopa Kings and return all of the paper people to their original world.

Gameplay[edit]

This game follows the standard gameplay of the Mario & Luigi series, with the addition of Paper Mario as a playable character, who is controlled with the Y Button. With his paper-thin form, Paper Mario contributes more to the gameplay by being able to slip into narrow spaces and undergo paper transformations. Paper Mario can also make copies of himself in battle, and in addition to the standard Bros. Attacks, there are also Trio Attacks which utilize all three characters.

This installment also replaces the badge system from the previous two games with a Battle Card system. There are also several Papercraft battles, which are similar to the giant battles from the previous two Mario & Luigi games.

Legacy[edit]

After this game, the next two Mario & Luigi games were 3DS remakes of previous installments, starting with Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions in 2017.

The next Paper Mario game would be Paper Mario: Color Splash for the Wii U in 2016.
