Innes is a playable unit from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Background

Innes was the son of King Hayden of Frelia. He was Frelia's prince and the heir to the throne. Innes practiced archery from a young age and quickly became very competitive and aloof. When he was a child, he competed with a foreign trick archer at one of his birthday ceremonies and bested him. He met Ephraim and Eirika for the first time at one of his sister Tana's birthday ceremonies, and Innes spent most of that day competing with Ephraim. The two became quick rivals. Innes was particularly protective of his sister, as was King Hayden, and he did not approve of her presence on battlefields.

When the War of the Stones broke out, Innes fought Grado's forces on the front lines to prevent them from entering Frelia. It is said to be due to Innes's tactical prowess, and he also had spies reporting all of the army's movements. He returned to Frelia castle between the eighth and ninth chapters and was reunited with Ephraim and Eirika. Innes initially criticized Renais's defenses until Tana told him that the twins had lost their parents during Grado's invasion. They were then called into a war council, and after Frelia's Sacred Stone was abruptly destroyed by Caellach, it was decided that they should travel to other nations and warn them. Innes volunteered to go to Jehanna in order forge a bond with Queen Ismaire and keep their Sacred Stone safe. In Eirika's path, he led his troops, which included Gerik's Mercenaries, through Carcino to Jehanna, but Carcino turned out to have betrayed them, and they were able to cut through Innes's forces. In Ephraim's path, he instead sent Gerik and Tethys to Ephraim due to having no need of them.

In "Chapter 10: Revolt at Carcino", Gerik and Tethys stuck with him at the battle of Carino, and Innes refused to surrender. When he saw that they were out of resources, he tried to dismiss the mercenaries so that he would be the only way to die, but this only caused them to stand by him with even more loyalty. Eirika's forces soon arrived to help, and Innes joined with them. He was dismayed to see Tana fighting as well and preferred her to stay behind. Gerik and Tethys stayed before him, and Innes decided to renew their contract with doubled pay as a result. Ewan than guided them to Caer Pelyn to act as an alternate route to Jehanna in "Chapter 11: Creeping Darkness". He also pointed out to Glen how foolish he was acting. They entered Jehanna in "Chapter 13: Hamill Canyon", and they defeated the remains of Carcino's rebels after receiving word that the Frelian reinforcements had reclaimed Carcino from them. However, Grado was able to claim Jehanna Palace before they could reach it. They were able to reclaim the palace, but Queen Ismaire was already dead, and Jehanna's Sacred Stone was destroyed.

In "Chapter 15: Scorched Sand", Eirika and Innes's forces were ambushed by Grado reinforcements lead by Valter and Caellach. Ephraim's forces soon arrived to help them, and it was at this point that they all merged into one army. Innes continued to serve as part of this army for the remainder of the War of the Stones. He also had Frelia's Sacred Twin items shipped to them for use by the army, leaving the decision of who should wield them to Ephraim's authority. Once the war was finished with the Demon King's defeat, Innes was impressed at what they had accomplished. He promised to help to rebuild Renais and admitted that it was not a bad thing to fight alongside Ephraim. Innes also assured Ephraim that they would come when they saw who was truly better.

Possible Fates

Innes has four different endings, depending on whether or not he reaches an A Rank Support with one of three certain characters:

• Default Ending - Innes eventually succeeds Hayden as king of Frelia. He uses his resourcefulness and tactical prowess to help himself build a court of loyal vassals in order to lead the country to greater prosperity.
• Eirika and Innes's Ending - Following Renais's reconstruction, Innes challenged Ephraim to a duel that ended in a tie. Eirika then acknowledged her love for Innes, and the two married with Ephraim's blessings.
• L'Arachel and Innes's Ending - A love flourished between them, as did the bond between their two nations. Tales were told of the sparks that flew between them when they first met.
• Vanessa and Innes's Ending - Innes requests that Vanessa move into Castle Frelia, which she does while continuing her duities as a knight of Frelia. They have a child together and live happily with the blessing of those around them.

Support Conversation Summaries

Innes is capable of having support conversations with six other characters:

• Eirika - Innes decides to protect Eirika in exchange for helping him at Carcino, and Eirika eventually accepts but is confused that Innes attempts to lead her when he is an archer and should travel behind her. In the next conversation Innes shows his frustration to Eirika for attacking the enemies quickly and head-on without giving Innes an opportunity to act, saying it makes it look like she is protecting him. Eirika then tells Innes that she appreciates his gesture to help, and Innes says that she is very kind especially compared to her brother. Eirika then tries to defend Ephraim, but this only serves to make Innes more jealous of him. In the final conversation Innes confesses having fallen in love with Eirika and says that he could not bare to see her in the arms of another, so he was determined to best Ephraim to earn the right to woo her. He says this is because with a man like Ephraim around would give Eirika little need for suitors. He swears to destroy Ephraim, leaving Eirika bewildered and infuriated by him.
• Gerik - When they talk, Innes apologizes for his previous orders when he demanded that Gerik leave him behind when they were outnumbered by the enemy. Innes explains that he always tried to be a model commander, but that perhaps he had been too severe and wondered how Gerik remained so levelheaded in battle. In their next conversation, Innes compliments the efforts of the 'desert tiger', which surprises Gerik that even royalty knows of him. Gerik explains however that despite his fame, fighting isn't really his nature and explains how he became a mercenary and lost many friends as a result. He insists that he doesn't want to see Innes die, as he doesn't want to have to try and forget another comrade. In their last conversation, Innes relates that his father told him to watch Gerik and to learn from him and that he had finally understood what his father meant. Gerik however insists that Innes is a better man than he, pointing out how hard he works for his pride, even when he gets beaten, that the prince constantly fights to maintain it. Filled with confidence, Innes declares that when he is king, he will make Gerik the general of his army.
• Joshua - Joshua meets Innes on the battlefield and proposes a bet, suggesting that they get to know each other if they are going to fight alongside each other and that a friendly wager was the best way to get to know someone. Innes says that he believes in skill rather than luck but goes along with the bet anyway and loses the coin-toss despite briefly believing that his side had come up, noting that there was more to gambling than meets the eye. In the next conversation Innes had lost ten times in a row and Joshua suggests that he stop while he still has money but Innes refuses to give in while on a losing streak. In the next conversation he still insists on betting, at which point Joshua confesses that the whole thing was rigged, and he begins to describe various scam artists he had met in the past and how he had initially learned the tricks so that they could not be used on him. Innes says he never had much experience with such things due to having been groomed to be king and realizes there are some things that he can only learn on the field. Joshua then offers to return his money to him, but Innes says that he can keep some because he blames himself for not seeing through his tricks, and Joshua considers it his tuition fee. To Joshua's surprise, Innes still wants to continue betting now that he knew Joshua's trick he feels a winning streak coming on, so Joshua reluctantly agrees and flips the coin while telling Innes to call it in the air.
• L'Arachel - In the first conversation, they talk privately for the first time and L'Arachel introduced herself, although Innes is previously acquainted with her. They compare the sea food of their respective homes and decided to visit each other's countries after the war to determine which country really has the better sea food. In the next conversation, Innes questions L'Arachel on whether she has permission from her superiors to be here, and she takes offense to the question. He tells her that he has heard of how wild she is and advises she practice greater self-control like Frelia's pegasus knights. They wind up comparing beautiful locales in their respective homes and wind up also agreeing to take each other on tours of these places. In the final conversation, they realize that they will need an impartial judge to properly compare their two nations, so they decide upon Eirika and Ephraim. Innes is not sure what there is to gain rom the competition, but he tells her that he is glad to compete against her. L'Arachel tells him it is only another contest in the name of all that is holy and true.
• Tana - The conversation begins when Tana meets with Innes and volunteers to protect him, but he dimisses her and asks her to return to Frelia. Even if she is a pegasus knight who trained with Syrene and Vanessa, Innes does not believe that a Frelian princess should be fighting. In the next conversation, Tana has managed to prove her experience on the battlefield and improved their strategies, but Innes is still concerned due to her naivete. She is more worried about him because even though he had good judgement, he was too blunt for most people to stand him. Innes uses Ephraim as an example of someone who could take advantage of her, and she begins to ask him if he really thinks she is interested in him. Innes recants this and tells her that he simply does not want to see her get hurt. Tana is annoyed by this and refuses to talk to him anymore. In the final conversation, Innes calls her stubborn, but Tana insists that he is the stubborn one. She thinks that they should get along more instead of arguing all the time and envies how close Ephraim and Eirika are.She accuses him of not trying to understand her well enough, but Innes insists that this is not true and reminds her of the time she lost their father's crown. Innes had been able to find the crown and took the blame for having lost it, which made Tana feel like the luckiest sister in the world. Tana wants Innes to forgive her for not going home because she wants to be near her brother, and Inne finally relents and allows her to stay. He expects her to apologize to King Hayden when they return hom and not worry too much because he will be there when she does. Tana calls him the best brother, and Innes calls her a handful.
• Vanessa - In their first conversation, Innes checks up on Vanessa, who is glad to see that he is alright and remembers how worried she was when a messenger from Carcino had told them that he was in danger. Innes tells her that nothing will happen to him and considers it strange that she is now grown up and worrying about him as he remembers her being just a girl when she first joined the pegasus knights. Vanessa vows to protect Innes at any cost, but he laughs it off and tells her that it is his duty as prince to protect her. In the next conversation, Vanessa compliments Innes's archery skills, which flatter him, and he notices that she has improved her own skills. He tells her that she gives him confidence in battle due to feeling secure when fighting alongside a skilled knight, but also because he can sense her trying to protect him at any cost. Innes admits that he normally does not need any help, but Vanessa is the exception, which makes her glad. He tells her not to worry about risking her life because he is unstoppable with her beside him. In the final conversation, watching Innes shoot his arrow causes Vanessa to space out and remember the time he demonstrated his archery skills at King Hayden's birthday ceremony. He dismisses it as an exhibition trick compared to actual warfare, but Vanessa continues to voice her admiration of the feat. Innes asks Vanessa whether she was admiring his skills or him in general and then claims he was just kidding. He is still impressed that she remembers that distant memory, and she assures him that she has always been watching and admiring him while trying not to sound too creepy. Innes has trouble finding words, but he tells her that he has always known her a s a knight primarily, and after the war he would like to know the other side of her: the woman. Innes tells her not to leave his side from now on, and Vanessa excitedly promises to follow him anywhere.
