The Digdogger is a giant sea urchin-like creature that has appeared as a recurring boss in the The Legend of Zelda series.

Information[edit]

A Digdogger resembles a giant sea urchin with one large eye. It is normally invulnerable to normal attacks. Digdoggers can only be made vulnerable by using a specific item (depending on the game) to make it vulnerable. It could then be felled with normal attacks. In The Legend of Zelda, this item was the flute, and its music would either reduce the Digdogger's size greatly or cause it to split into three smaller versions of itself. In Oracle of Seasons, the Digdogger's weakness was instead using the Magnetic Gloves to roll a large metallic ball over it. This split it into smaller versions of itself, and continuing to use the gloves could split them into even smaller pieces until it was completely destroyed.

Within The Legend of Zelda, Digdogger first appeared as the boss of the Lizard Labyrinth and then reappeared within the Demon Labyrinth as a miniboss. In Oracle of Seasons, it was the boss of Unicorn's Cave.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the Japanese instruction manual for the original game, it was specifically compared to an Unira, an enemy from Clu Clu Land. Uniras could be stunned by sound attacks, which could have been the inspiration for Digdogger's weakness against music.
  • It is connected to the boss character Vitreous from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past due to it having a similar Japanese name (ending in "doga" or in English "dogger") and also being associated with a giant singular eye.
  • In Breath of the Wild one bridge is named the Digdogg Suspension Bridge in reference to it.
