Arran is a playable unit appearing in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, as well as the remakes Monshou no Nazo and Shadow Dragon.

Background[edit]

Book One[edit]

Arran once was the captain of a group of knights and was a skilled fighter. The details are undisclosed, but he eventually retired for unknown reasons to a village within Altea. In Chapter 16 (13 SNES), either he or Samson could be recruited into Marth's Altean army, as they both lived in feuding villages and after one was recruited the other village would close its gates to Marth's men out of spite. After the war ended, Arran became the new captain of Altea's knights at Jagen's request.

Book Two[edit]

Three years later, Arran accompanied Marth on his campaign for the World of Heroes from its beginning. However, he suffered from some unspecified illness which affected his ability in combat. Although he was still a formidable fighter, he was not so effective against enemies encountered later in the war. Arran died from this illness not long after the war ended, at which point Cain succeeded him as the captain of Altea's knights.

Trivia[edit]

  • He acts as the Jagen character for Book 2 of Monshou no Nazo (a prepromoted character available from the beginning who seems invincible against early enemies but has poor growth rates and sucks up experience that could be better used for the other units), with his illness being the storyline explanation for the difference in his usefulness. A villager in the first chapter goes as far as to directly point out the flaws in using him too much.
  • Even though only Arran or Samson can be recruited in Ankoku Ryuu and its remakes, Book Two of Monsho no Nazo seems to imply that both were part of Marth's army during the War of Darkness.
  • In Shadow Dragon, he receives a Support Bonus from Marth.
