Telma is a clever and kind bartender who acts as a supporting character in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Background[edit]

Telma appeared to have a rich history which was not explored. She knew Rusl and several other members of the group since he was young, and she also had past connections with other figures such as Renado. She was a playful and flirtatious character, but she also was very serious about affairs such as the protection of Hyrule. Telma had little respect for Hyrule's soldiers, which was likely one reason why she organized her group. The group met at her bar and worked together to try to find ways to work behind the scenes to help bring peace back to Hyrule. The group officially consisted of Rusl, Auru, Ashei and Shad. Telma's cat Louise also helped the group unofficially. The bar was a particularly convenient meeting palce due to to the secret passage it contained, which led to the castle.

She also seemed to be influenced by maternal instincts. Telma was mentioned as having looked out for Ashei when she first came to Hyrule. Telma also took the amnesia-stricken Ilia in and helped to take care of her after she found her wandering the streets of Hyrule. Ilia had also discovered the sick Zora Prince Ralis, and Telma was impressed by her courage. She had the local doctor take look at him, but there was nothing he could (or would) do for a Zora. Telma realized that Renado might be able to help, but none of the soldiers were willing to escort her to his home at Kakariko Village. The only volunteer was Link. She realized that he knew Ilia and told him about her situation. With Link acting as the escort, Telma was able to bring Ilia and Ralis to Kakariko safely in a covered wagon. Once they arrived there, Telma told Link about her group and invited him to help. She decided to stick around for a while to look after Ilia, and it seemed that her other reason was her admiration of Renado, although he later admitted that he could not stand her company. She later returned to her bar and introduced Link to the other members of the group when he visited, although at least one member would usually be out at a time working on some investigation.

Link later brought Telma a note from Renado. She was initially excited by it, only to be disappointed that she was not mentioned within the letter, so she considered him to be foolish. It was about helping to trace Ilia's steps to regain her memory. Telma knew that the doctor had originally found Ilia, so Telma presented Link with the doctor's tab to make him talk. When she later heard about Ilia regaining her memory, Telma considered it to be the greatest news she heard that day and asked Link to take good care of her. At the same time, Telma considered that Link already had a lot of responsibilities. She did not join in on the battle at Hyrule Castle (at least not onscreen), although it is likely that she let the rest of the group use the secret passage to the castle by her bar. During the ending credits, Telma was simply shown continuing her life as a bartender.

Trivia[edit]

  • She and her cat Louise are named after Thelma and Louise, the main characters of the movie of the same name who act as feminist rebels.
  • According to supplementary materials, she is between 30 and 40 years old.
  • She notably had several features which are associated with the Gerudo, who are otherwise absent from Twilight Princess, although this has never been addressed or confirmed within the game.
