Super Martio Party is a party game that was released in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch. It is a revamp of the Mario Party subseries following the tenth numbered sequel, and it is the sixteenth game in the series if the handheld games are counted.

Story[edit]

Mario and his friends have once again gotten into an argument about which of them is the true Super Star. Once agan, Toad has proposed deciding the Super Star through a competition. However, this time Bowser intervenes. He tells them that he and his minions want to participate as well this time, and he sends Kamek to act in his place among the hosts.

Gameplay[edit]

Super Mario Party features a versionthe classic board game-based gameplay of the classic games, after the previous two console games had attempted to deviate from it. There are some new gameplay features, such as each character having the option to use their own personal die instead of the standard one. A character's personal die could include higher numbers and higher chances of selecting some numbers, but they also include a chance of getting a zero. One other new gameplay element (inspired by the partner system in Mario Party: Star Rush) is that characters can recruit other characters as teammates by landing on Ally Spaces or using an item called the Buddy Phone.

The game's different modes and difficulty levels are selected through a hub area known as the Party Plaza. Mario Party is the game's main mode in which four characters compete on a board to earn coins and Stars. There is also a mode called Partner Party, in which teams of two compete against each other on a nonlinear board. It also contains River Survival, which features four players cooperating while navigating a river. The game has an unlockable single-player mode known as Challenge Road, in which a player has to clear through various minigames while fulfilling specific challenges. There is also the Sound Stage (which is for rhythm-based minigames) and a standard minigame mode (including a tournament known as a Mariothon).

As usual, the game allows up to four players. Each player could play with a single Joy-Con, and a mode called Toad's Rec Room could be used to set the game up to be played over two Nintendo Switches. This game also features online gameplay in the form of Online Mariothons where players compete in minigames. No boards are available for online gameplay.

Playable Characters[edit]

This game features 20 playable characters to choose from, which is the largest roster of any Mario Party game. Out of them, only four are unlockable, and three of them (Goomba, Monty Mole and Pom Pom) are new to playable roles in the series.
