Solrock is a solar-powered rock-like Pokémon of possible extraterrestrial origins that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary lines, but it has a foil in the moon-shaped Lunatone.

Information[edit]

Solrock has been described as a new species of Pokémon that is believed to hail from outer space and has even been rumored to come from the sun itself. It can float in the air and move silently, and Solrock also releases a bright light in battle. It emits light similar to the sun while rotating which can blind enemies. Solrock receives its power from sunlight, and on sunny days groups of them line up facing the sun to absorb its light. Solrock's face is always expressionless, but it is said to be able to read the thoughts and emotions of others.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby and Emerald, Solrock was found at Meteor Falls, being common on foot and less common in water. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could appear uncommonly at Mt. Coronet, Turnback Cave, the three lakes and Sendoff Spring when a Ruby cartridge was present in the GBA slot. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it would appear at the Wasteland if enough Rock objects were present. In Black and White, it was uncommonly found at Route 13 and the Giant Chasm.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Solrock could be snagged from Snattle at Citadark Isle, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could appear at the Cave of the Ruby Field. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at SOL Laboratories, Endless Level 9, Forever Level 9 and Mr. Who's Den, and Solrock was also used as the symbol of the Secret Operation League. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the twelfth through twentieth floors of Sky Tower, the sixth through eleventh floors of Mt. Faraway and the eightieth through eighty-ninth floors of Wish Cave. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Panula Cave. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, Solrock was recruitable at the fourth through tenth basement floors of Spacial Rift.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Solrock was first featured in a Hoenn episode where a local Solrock was being blamed for a drought that was actually Team Rocket's doing, and the Solrock's reputation was redeemed at the end. In later episodes, Solrock were used by Tate (alongside Liza's Lunatone) and Brandon (which he used during one of his matches with Ash in the Battle Frontier series) alongside other minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Solrock was also featured as Tate's main Pokémon during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "sol" (which is Latin for "sun") and "rock".
