Seaking is a horned first Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It is the evolved form of Goldeen.

Information[edit]

Seaking evolves from Goldeen at Level 33. It has a horn on its head that it uses to bore through boulders. Autumn is their spawning season, at which point Seaking's body becomes more fatty to prepare to propose to a mate and takes on beautiful colors. They swim powerfully up rivers and creeks to a meeting of Seaking from all over. In the riverbeds there, Seaking males perform courtship dances in an attempt to woo female Seaking.

They are very protective of their children. Seaking use their horns to pierce holes in boulders where they build their nests to prevent their eggs from being attacked or washed away by the current. The male makes the nest, and the male and female take turns patrolling to watch over the eggs for over a month. Seaking use their sharp horns to protect their families.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Red and Blue Versions, Seaking could be uncommonly found by fishing with the Super Rod at Route 23, Fuchsia City and Cerulean Cave. They were also found more commonly at Cerulean Cave in Yellow and also could be fished less commonly at Route 23 and Cerulean City. In FireRed and LeafGreen, Seaking could be fished at Fuchsia City, Safari Zone and Berry Forest.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, Pokémon: HeartGold and SoulSilver, it was uncommonly fished with the Super Rod at Routes 4 (surfing only), 9, 10, 24, 25 and 42, Union Cave (fishing only), Slowpoke Well (fishing only), Dark Cave (fishing only), Mt. Mortar, Tohjo Falls, Cerulean City (surfing only) and Mt. Silver Cave. In HeartGold/SoulSilver they were also found at the Safari Zone's Swamp and Rocky Beach areas.

In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Seaking were uncommonly found while fishing with the Super Rod at the Safari Zone. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they could be fished at Routes 203, 204, 209, 212 and 214, Twinleaf Town, Lake Valor, Lake Varity, Lake Acuity, Resort Area and Sendoff Spring. In Black and White, they could be fished at fishing spots at Routes 3, 11 and 14, Striaton City, Pinwheel Forest, Lostlorn Forest and Abundant Shrine.

Other Games[edit]

Seaking could only be obtained by evolving a Goldeen in Pokémon Pinball, Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. Among the line of Pokémon e-Reader games, Seaking appeared in the "Ditto Leapfrog" minigame as one of the Pokémon being juggled by Kingler which Ditto had to rescue by bouncing it back to the river. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 14 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Safra Beach.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Seaking could be found at the first twenty-four basement floors of Lake Afar. Seaking also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Bright Beach.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Johto series featured a Seaking Catching Day in which various trainers competed in trying to catch the largest Seaking using fishing rods and Lake Balls. Ash and Misty both participated in the contest, and Misty wound up tying for first place with another trainer and winning after beating him in a battle. During the Hoenn series, Juan used a Seaking in his gym battle with Ash, and it was powerful enough to reflect electric attacks using its Horn Attack although Ash's Pikachu was still able to win with Iron Tail.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Seaking made a brief appearance in the Yellow arc where Yellow failed to catch one due to not wanting to hurt it. Another Seaking was later shown as one of Wallace's Pokémon.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "sea" and "king" (mirroring Goldeen being derived from "queen") and is possibly intended as a pun on "sinking".
