Sarasaland is a kingdom that was featured as the setting for Super Mario Land.

Information[edit]

Sarasaland was described as a "peaceful world" which consisted of four smaller kingdoms. Little is known about it beyond its only known governing power being Princess Daisy. The existence of a king was not hinted at, and as with Princess Peach with the Mushroom Kingdom, Daisy was the only governing force associated with Sarasaland to actually appear.

Within Super Mario Land, the alien invader Tatanga arrived and conquered Sarasaland. Its people were hypnotized to follow his orders, and he captured Princess Daisy to force her to marry him. Tatanga was eventually defeated by Mario, which restored peace to the kingdom.

In Super Mario Maker, there was an Event Course called "Adventure in Sarasaland". The course started off as World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. (set in the Mushroom Kingdom), but it contained an underwater portion. On the other side of the underwater area was an area that was designed to resemble part of World 1-1 of Super Mario Land (in the Birabuto Kingdom), representing a journey between the two lands. The course also contained Mystery Mushrooms that Mario could use to become Daisy.

Locations[edit]

Sarasaland is composed of four different kingdoms:

  • Birabuto Kingdom - This is a desert area which contains various pyramids. The final area is some type of catacomb which contains hieroglyphics. The creatures found here include Gaos, Kumos, Flies, Bunbuns, Goombos, Bombshell Koopas and Piranha Plants. The boss of this kingdom is King Totomesu.
  • Muda Kingdom - Muda is an aquatic kingdom that can only be navigated using the Marine Pop. It is populated by Yurarins, Yurarin Boos, Honens, Mekabons, Gunions, Torions, Tamo, Goombos, Bombshell Koopas and Piranha Plants. The boss of this kingdom is Dragonzamasu.
  • Easton Kingdom - This kingdom is more mountainous and filled with various ridges along with ancient statues and tyes of totem poles. There is also an underground area. The enemies found here include Tokotokos, Ganchans, Kumos, Suus, Goombos, Bombshell Koopas, Piranha Plants and Bullet Biffs. The boss of this area is Hiyoihoi.
  • Chai Kingdom - This kingdom contains mountains and bamboo trees. It has enemies including Pionpis, Nyololins, Pompom Flowers, Chikakos, Chickens, Roketons, Goombos, Bullet Biffs and Piranha Plants. The final area is actually set in the sky, which contains the boss Biokinton. This is also where Mario's final battle with Tatanga was staged following the defeat of Biokinton.

Trivia[edit]

  • The kingdom's name could originate from the Hindu goddess Saraswati. Sarasa is also a female name in Japan as well as India.
  • Each kingdom save for Muda is based on a real world location: Birabuto is Egypt, Easton is Easter Island, and Cahi is China.
  • Even though Sarasaland has not been featured outside of Super Mario Land, Princess Daisy has made repeated appearances primarily within the sports games, and Sarasaland itself is sometimes mentioned in reference to Daisy.
  • It notably contains some creatures which are variations of Mushroom Kingdom enemies: specifically the Goombos, Bombshell Koopas and Bullet Biffs. The Piranha Plant enemy is the only one to remain the same.
