The Rope is a type of snake that has had a recurring presence as a minor enemy within the The Legend of Zelda series.

Information[edit]

The Rope has been described as a poisonous snake that usually makes its home in labyrinths and other types of dungeons, although in some cases they have appeared in the wild. They move slowly until they sense other creatures nearby. The Rope will then abruptly charge towards the stranger at an accelerated speed to attack. Despite their fast reflexes, Ropes are weak creatures and easily defeated. They have primarily appeared in most of the 2-D games. Their exact appearances differ between games, as some versions have cartoonish eyes, while others are depicted as looking more sinister. They have also come in different colors such as red, green and blue, as well as a purple one in Phantom Hourglass.

In A Link to the Past, the Rope's Dark World counterpart was the Stalrope, which was similar to the Rope except that it had a skull on its head. In The Minish Cap, Golden Ropes could appear from some Kinstone fusions. These Golden Ropes were as strong as normal Ropes but took many more hits to defeat and left behind large amounts of Rupees, like other Gold monsters.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • Ropes made a minor appearance in an episode of the The Legend of Zelda cartoon, where Link and Zelda fought some of them in a labyrinth.
  • Although they did not appear in the Valiant comic, they played an indirect role in one issue where a child had been bitten by one and needed a fairy to heal him due to the poison.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name simply seems to reflect the Rope's snake-like shape.
  • The whip in Spirit Tracks bears the likeness of a red Rope.
