Quagsire is an amphibious Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the evolved form of Wooper.

Information[edit]

Quagsire evolves from Wooper at Level 30. It is a carefree Pokémon with a relaxed nature. Because of this, it often absentmindedly bumps into boat hulls and rocks while swimming. They usually live at the bottoms of rivers and leave their mouths open waiting for prey to blunder in. Because they do not move much, Quagsire do not get hungry that often. Its body is always slimy.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Quagsire could be found on foot at Routes 10, 13, 14, 15, 26 and 27, Mt. Silver Cave, and by surfing at Routes 12, 13 and 32, Union Cave and outside the Ruins of Alph, appearing at all times of day while surfing, and on foot they were rare in the morning and common at night. In Crystal, they only appeared at Routes 12, 13, 14, 15, 26, 27 and 32, outside the Ruins of Alph (on foot and surfing) and at Union Cave under the same conditions except that they only appeared on land at night. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they also appeared rarely during the daytime and could also be found at Route 47's Cliff Cave, Cliff Edge Gate (surfing) and the Safari Zone's Wetland and Marshland areas (surfing).

In Emerald, they were rarely found in the Safari Zone extension. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they were found at Route 212 during rain and at the Great Marsh.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Quagsire could be snagged from Bandana Guy Divel at Pyrite Town, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Endless Level 5, Endless Level 11, Forever Level 54 and Mr. Who's Den. Quagsire could only be obtained by evolving a Wooper in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, but in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be recruited at Lake Afar. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at the Old Mansion and Ice Temple. Quagsire also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Iceberg Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Quagsire was first featured in an early episode of the Johto series where one of them stole the GS Ball from Ash for use in a ceremony where Quagsire took round things upstream and dropped them down the river for good luck. The Quagsire in the episode were part of a Quagsire Preservation due to the people of Cherrygrove City valuing them for keeping the rivers clean. One episode of the Hoenn series also featured a Quagsire as one of the two Pokémon belonging to a trainer named Rocky. During the Sinnoh series, Crasher Wake used one during his gym battle with Ash which outmatched his Turtwig but lost against Buizel.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Quagsire only made a brief appearance in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc as one of the Pokémon Crystal caught. During the Diamond/Pearl arc, Crasher Wake had a Quagsire for his gym battle with Platina, and she was able to beat it with Diamond's Torterra.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on "quagmire" (which is a swamp-like environment) combined with "sire".
