Punch-Out is a revival of the Punch-Out!! games made for the Nintendo Wii.

Story[edit]

As in the original NES game, the player controls the character of Little Mac in fighting his way through a variety of bizarre opponents in a series of boxing matches in order to become champion of the World Video Boxing Association.

Overview[edit]

The game features advanced cel-shaded graphics as well as most of the characters from the previous games. The controls are mostly similar to the original Punch-Out!! with the exception that the player can choose between playing using the Wii's motion sensitive controls and using the controller sideways akin to the original NES controller. It is also compatible with the Wii Balance Board in conjunction with the Wii controller and nunchuck,

Punch-Out!! is divided into several modes. Career Mode is the standard mode in which the player fighters through the ranks of the WVBA to become champion. In Exhibition Mode, the player can replay boxers that they have battled and earn achievements. There is additionally a two-player mode where both players control Little Macs in a boxing match, with the option of transforming into Giga Mac. Other modes are unlocked as Career Mode is completed, such as Title Defense Mode followed by Last Stand and Champion modes.

Legacy[edit]

Doc Louis's Punch-Out!!, which features Mac's trainer Doc Louis, was released as free downloadable WiiWare exclusively to platinum Club Nintendo members in October 2009 in order to promote the game. Additionally, Next Level Games has shown interest in producing a sequel which would feature new boxers.

Additionally, this game would later inspire Little Mac's inclusion as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.

Ports/Remakes[edit]

  • In 2015, it was released for download through the Wii U's eShop.
