Murkrow is a Dark crow Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation Pokémon games. It originally had no evolutionary line, but it was discovered to evolve into Honchcrow in the fourth generation games.

Information[edit]

Murkrow is a Pokémon that is feared and hated by many due to belief that it will bring misfortune to all who see it at night. It has also been said that when chased, Murkrow will lure their pursers to dark mountain trails or forests, where they will get lost. They have a strong interest in anything that sparkles will even try to steal rings from women. Murkrow and Meowth have been known to steal from each other's stashes of shiny objects.

Murkrow is a primarily nocturnal Pokémon and, according to the Johto games, is apparently capable of mimicking human speech. It evolves into Honchcrow when exposed to the Dusk Stone.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Murkrow could be unommonly found at Routes 7 and 16, as well as in the Johto Safari Zone's Waterside Forest area in HeartGold/SoulSilver, at night. In HeartGold/SoulSilver, they could also be found at the Safari Zone's Swamp area at all times of day. They could also be caught on the Pokéwalker's Suburban Area course and then transferred from there to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In FireRed, Murkrow could be caught at the Lost Cave. In Diamond, Murkrow could be caught at the Eterna Forest and Lost Tower, appearing uncommonly at both places only at night. In Black, they rarely appeared at the Abundant Shrine.

Other Games[edit]

Murkrow appears in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge as Karen's Pokémon. In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Murkrow could be snagged from an enemy trainer at the Shadow Pokémon Lab, and after being purified, this Murkrow could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, Murkrow could be found on Phobos Jet, Endless Level 47, Forever Level 13 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team, they were found on the fifth through seventh floors of Great Canyon, the first two floors of the Western Cave and the thirty-ninth through forty-second floors of the Wish Cave, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness, they were found on the first fourteen basement floors of World Abyss. In the prior games, a non-playable Murkrow also appeared as a member of Team Ebony with Shuppet.

In Pokémon Ranger, Murkrow could be found in Lyra Forest, and in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found in Pueltown. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Murkrow was found at Teakwood Forest and the Dark Temple. It also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Haunted Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

  • Murkrow have made various appearances in the Pokémon anime. Near the end of the Johto arc, a group of Murkrow stole Ash's badges, and they had to get them back. Mischief-causing Murkrow have also appeared in some of the Pokémon shorts. During the Diamond/Pearl episodes, Paul had a Murkrow that evolved into a Honchcrow between episodes.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, all three main characters of the Gold/Silver/'"Crystal arc caught a Murkrow, but only Silver kept it on his team as one of his main Pokémon, and it later evolved into a Honchkrow in the HeartGold/SoulSilver arc. Karen also had a pair of Murkrow in her appearance.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "murky" and "crow", and may also be derived from "murder", which can mean a flock of crows.
