Monferno is a swift flame-tailed monkey-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the middle form of Chimchar's evolutionary line and evolves into Infernape.

Information[edit]

Monferno evolves from Chimchar at Level 14. It can use its fiery tail as a weapon and can control the fire's intensity to keep foes away by stretching out the fire to make itself appear bigger. Monferno can also utilize walls and ceilings to launch aerial attacks. Monferno with bigger fires and brighter blue patterns on their faces wind up with higher ranks in their packs.

It evolves into Infernape at Level 36.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Monferno has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Chimchar.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Monferno could be recruited at the Giant Volcano, the first fifteen basement floors of Dark Crater and the first five floors of Dark Crater Pit. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Cargo Ship. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it could be found at Mt. Sorbet and the Dark Temple. Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Monferno was first shown in a Sinnoh episode where one belonging to the Pokémon Summer Academy and was temporarily trained by a trainer named Angie, starting off disobedient but ultimately gaining respect for the trainer. Ash's Chimchar evolved into Monferno more than halfway through the series during a battle against Paul's Pokémon, which it ultimately lost despite its initial edge. Monferno would lose control once it used its Blaze ability, but it was eventually able to control this to save some of the group's Pokémon from a collapsing Team Rocket mech and evolved into Infernape in the process.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Pearl's Chimchar evolved into Monferno at the same time that Diamond's Turtwig and Platina's Piplup evolved, when the three were training together for Platina's second gym challenge at Eterna City. Platina borrowed it for her gym battle with Maylene, and Monferno later evolved into Infernape at the same time that Grotle evolved into Torterra when the group was fighting off members of Team Galactic alongside Platina's real bodyguards.

Trivia[edit]
