The Mogmas are a race of mole-like creatures that were featured in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Information[edit]

The Mogmas are a subterranean race. They are known for their expertise in burrowing and digging in general. Mogmas live exclusively underground, usually within mountainous areas. They have a love of treasure, so a majority of them find work as treasure hunters. These Mogmas usually travel to different temples or other dungeon areas in search of valuable treasures. Mogmas wear special Digging Mitts invented by their leader, Guld, which enhance their digging abilities. There is also an advanced version called the Mogma Gloves which are relatively rare. Mogmas can work independently as well as in pairs and groups. Mogmas are also known to arm themselves with bombs to help them clear obstacles.

In Skyward Sword, the Mogmas were shown to be one of the five races who helped in the war against Demise long ago. During the present timeline, they inhabited Eldin Mountain, but they were forced into hiding due to invading Bokoblin forces. Link helped them to reclaim their homes and earned a pair of Digging Mitts from one Mogma named Tyto. The treasure hunter Ledd also had a recurring presence. During Link's return to the Eldin Province, he met Guld at the Fire Sanctuary and saved some of his friends who were held prisoner after their failed attempts to steal treasure. Link managed to earn the upgraded Mogma Mitts from one of them. Guld also called upon Link's help to "retire" and was brought to the Lumpy Pumpkin to work in plowing the fields.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is likely a play on "mogura", which is Japanese for "mole", possibly combined with "magma".
