Minun is a cheering electrical Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line but is complemented by Plusle, with these Pokémon obliging the introduction of the double battle system.

Information[edit]

Minun is a Pokémon that loves cheering on friends and is more concerned for cheering on these friends than for its own safety. It gives off sparks while cheering and give off increasing amounts when its partner is in trouble. Minun uses pom-poms made of sparks and shorts out the electricity in its body to make sparks rain down on its comrades. They also dislike water and so take shelter under the eaves of houses during rain. A meeting of Pokémon academics also found that simultaneous electricity from both Plusle and Minun could promote circulation and boost vitality.

It is a Pokémon that is primarily useful for double battles due to its large amount of supportive moves as well as its Plus ability boosting its special attack when paired with Plusle or another Pokémon with the Plus ability.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Minun was found at Route 210, being somewhat common in Ruby and Emerald but rare in Sapphire. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Minun was one of the Pokémon that Mr. Backlot could randomly place in the Trophy Garden on a daily basis.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Minun could appear uncommonly at Routes 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 29, 33, 36, 37, 38, 39, 46 and 48 and National Park when the Hoenn Sound was playing over the radio. In White, Minun could appear at Route 6 during swarms, with Minun replacing it in Black.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Minun could be hatched from an egg, and a Minun also formed an electric barrier with Plusle blocking the Poké Mart on the Sapphire Field. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Huge Storage 4, Endless Level 23, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, it could be recruited at the fourth through fifth floors of Thunderwave Cave, the seventh through nineteenth floors of Lightning Field and the fifth through eighth floors of Joyous Tower, while in Red Rescue Team it could only be recruited after a Wonder Mail mission in which one was escorted to a Plusle at the seventh floor of Mt. Blaze. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was found at the first five floors of Amp Plains.

Minun was also available as the starting partner Pokémon in Pokémon Ranger if the player starts as the male Lunick, being found in a box. If the player was the female Solana instead, Lunick's Minun would also bond with him after the main storyline was completed.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the anime, a Plusle and Minun belonging to a lighthouse keeper named Thatcher initially appeared in an episode of the Hoenn series, and they reappeared in a later episode where the Plusle and Minun were being trained as cheerleaders. Plusle and Minun were also used as main Pokémon actors in a movie being filmed in one episode, and a different pair acted as comic relief in the actual seventh Pokémon movie. Dawn's rival Ursula also owned both a Plusle and Minun during the Sinnoh series, and Dawn was shown to have a childhood fear of them.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one chapter of the Ruby/Sapphire arc introduced a Plusle and Minun that initially lived at the Abandoned Ship, and Ruby and Sapphire wound up teaming up with them to fight off Team Magma agents. The same pair later returned to train with Ruby and Sapphire in double battles under Juan at Mirage Island, and they were used by the pair for the arc's final battles, although it is unknown whether or not Ruby and Sapphire kept them.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on "minus" due to its negative charge, which helps it and Plusle to complement each other.
  • A trophy for Plusle and Minun appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Additionally, unused playable character data was found within that game that has been theorized to be referring to Plusle and Minun. This would indicate that they were intended to appear as a playable pair of characters at some point in development, only to ultimately be cut from the game.
