Also known as the God of All Pikmin, the Mamuta is a creature that appears in limited quantity in the Pikmin series. Mamutas are one of few creatures that don't kill Pikmin, but will actually help them in a way; if a Mamuta slams a Pikmin into the ground, it is replanted and will instantly have a flower on its stalk. Despite the fact that it assists Pikmin, the Mamuta can still be attacked by them.

In Pikmin

Only one Mamuta appears in Pikmin. It will appear at the Landing Site, on a tree stump near the Main Engine on even days after Day 8 of Olimar's stay on the planet. On odd days the Mamuta will not appear, and is replaced by a Goolix. If you do choose to kill the Mamuta, the best way to do so is to throw Pikmin onto it; attempting to swarm the Mamuta will make it easier for it to pound Pikmin into the ground.

In Pikmin 2

Mamutas are more common in Pikmin 2, often appearing in underground areas on sublevels with little to no other enemies (they no longer appear above ground). The lack of enemies on these floors emphasizes the fact that Olimar should use them to give his Pikmin flowers rather than kill them forthright. However, killing them is also a necessity now, as one of them holds a treasure.

The Mamutas first appear on Sublevel 5 of the Frontier Cavern along with a few Caustic Dweevils. One of these Mamutas is notable in that it carries the Brute Knuckles, the only power-up item in the Explorer's Kit that doesn't come from a boss creature. The Brute Knuckles allow Olimar and Louie to punch as powerfully as the Mamuta that drops it.

The Mamutas reappear on Sublevel 3 of the Cavern of Chaos, along with a few Creeping Chrysanthemums. Though not held by the Mamutas, two treasures can also be found here. Their final appearance is on Sublevel 5 of the Hole of Heroes, this time alone save for Honeywisps and Unmarked Spectralids.

Challenge Mode

• In the Pikmin Challenge Mode, the Mamuta is no longer at the Impact Site. It does, however, appear in the Distant Spring.
• In the Pikmin 2 Challenge Mode, two Mamutas appear in Stage 9: Trampled Garden.

Scientific Report

• In Pikmin, the Mamuta's remains can be carried back to the Onions by 8 Pikmin. It will generate 15 seeds.
• In Pikmin 2, a Mamuta's remains can be carried back to the ship pod by 7 Pikmin. It is worth 3 Pokos.
• Olimar's Notes
  • This seems to be a gentle, flower-loving creature, but if angered, it is fierce. Its mighty open-handed smack... It reminds me of the time back home when a mosquito landed on my head, and my wife tried to get it...
  • The imbalanced, asymmetrical arms of the mamuta are among its most notable features. Feeding on seeds and fruit, the mamuta is known to actually sow and grow plant species. While other species have exhibited seed-burying behavior for the purpose of storage, the mamuta is the only species so far known to actually cultivate fields of plants.
