Makuhita is a tenacious fighting Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. Its evolved form is Hariyama.

Information[edit]

Makuhita is known for its tireless fighting spirit, as it will never give up hope and continuously get up to attack its foes no matter how many times it is knocked over. Makuhita stores more body for evolution every time it gets back up. They eat a lot of food, get plenty of sleep and train vigorously as toughening their bodies is what they love to do the most. Rumbling noises often echo through caves as a result of their training. Makuhita toughen their bodies by slamming into trees, which results in snapped trees being commonly found near their nests.

All of the harsh training endures helps Makuhita to build up a sturdy body and a dauntless spirit while packing its body with energy. It evolves into Hariyama at Level 24.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Makuhita could be commonly found at Granite Cave and uncommonly at Victory Road. In Ruby and Sapphire, one could also be obtained by trading a Slakoth to a trainer at Rustboro City. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could appear at Route 225 during swarms.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could uncommonly appear at Route 47's Cliff Cave, Dark Cave, Union Road, Slowpoke Well, Mt. Mortar, Whirl Islands, Ice Path, Tohjo Falls, Victory Road, Rock Tunnel, Diglett's Cave, Mt. Moon, Seafoam Islands, Cerulean Cave and Mt. Silver when the Hoenn Sound is playing on the radio.

Other Games[edit]

Shadow Makuhita could be snagged from Miror B. Peon Trudly at Phenac City in Pokémon Colosseum and from Cipher Peon Torkin at Pyrite Town in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. In both games, the Makuhita could be traded to any of the third generation color versions after being purified. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, they appeared at Granite Cave, and one was also part of the Ruby Field that could be temporarily controlled. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Phobos Walker, Endless Level 31, Forever Level 31 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the thirtieth through thirty-fourth floors of Buried Relic, and one also ran a dojo at Pokémon Square.

In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Fall City and the Dusk Factory. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, they were recruitable at the third through seventeenth basement floors of Lost Wilderness. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at the Cargo Ship. Makuhita also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Faldera Island and the Fire Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Makuhita was featured in the Hoenn series as Brawly's main Pokémon which also liked to surf. It evolved into Hariyama during Ash's first gym battle with Brawly. Aside from that, other Makuhita have primarily made various minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Makuhita was shown during the Ruby/Sapphire arc as one of Brawly's main Pokémon. It evolved while fighting Combusken during his gym battle with Sapphire.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name, which is modified from its Japanese name, is derived from "makushita" (which is the Japanese term for the third highest sumo division due to the Pokémon's sumo influence).
