Debut Pokémon: Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire

Lisia was a Pokémon Coordinator who appeared in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Background[edit]

Lisia was an excitable and friendly young girl who was the niece of the prominent Pokémon trainer Wallace, who she referred to as "Uncle Wall". She looked up to him and was inspired to take part in Pokémon Contests by seeing him perform. He acted as her mentor and taught her everything she needed to know about competing in contests. As a Coordinator, she also wanted to promote that there was another side to Pokémon other than battling, which she was not skilled at. She partnered with her only known Pokémon, an Altaria named Ali that was capable of Mega Evolution, which she had raised from a Swablu. She became the Hoenn region's top Contest star and amassed a large fanbase, some of whom ran a clubhouse in Lilycove City. She also worked as an idol and shot many videos such as commercials, and she had a habit of breaking out into song. Some of her other habits included announcing flashy-sounding titles for individual 'chapters' in the lives of herself and others, as well as sometimes making Pokémon analogies for her emotions. She maintained an aura of positivity all the time, as she did not like to think in terms of winning or losing. This caused her to rebuff the rivalry of Chaz, who debuted in the same Contest as her at Lilycove City.

She also regularly scouted out new potential Coordinators and gave them everything they needed to take part in Contests. This was how she met Brendan/May in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. She met them by Slateport City's Contest Spectacular Hall, where she was picking the latest trainer to scout at random. She saw that the trainer had collected several gym badges, but had never taken part in a contest. So she gave them a Contest Pass and a Pokéblock Kit to get them started. The first time that Brendan/May competed in a contest, Lisia would appear and gave them a Contest Costume to use for their first contest. This was apparently to commemorate the trainer being the 100th trainer that she scouted. Afterwards, Lisia appeared to congratulate Brendan/May each time they beat a new rank for the first time, while also having some run-ins with Chaz. Lisia herself would compete against Brendan/May in Contests occasionally after they won five Master Rank Contests. If she lost to Brendan/May, she would reflect on how the trainer was skilled in a variety of areas, and this caused her to consider taking part in the Pokémon Gym challenge as well. She also gave them a Star Light decoration for their secret base. She would also appear after the player faced Wallace in a Contest and attempted to introduce them, only to realize that Brendan/May had already faced him in a gym battle.

Wallace also mentioned that Lisia was "tucked away safely" during the rampage of the Legendary Pokémon that occurred during the game (Groudon in Omega Ruby or Kyogre in Alpha Sapphire), and he implied that she did not know about the role that Brendan/May played in the incident.

In Other Pokémon Games[edit]

In Pokémon Masters EX, Lisia and her Altaria appeared as a playable sync pair that could be recruited at random through the game's Sync Pair Scout feature after being added to the game at the end of October 2020. As in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, her Altaria was capable of Mega Evolving. A New Year's 2023 variant of Lisia paired with a Shiny Galarian Rapidash was made available through the Sync Pair Scout during limited time periods starting in January 2023. The Rapidash was nicknamed Dashie and was said to be a present from her fans in Galar.

She has made appearances in a number of Story Events. In the "Summer Superstars" event, which introduced Lisia to the game several months before she became available in the Sync Pair Scout, she competed in a Pasio Superstar Competition alongside trainers from other regions such as Ryuki and Roxie. She was then featured in the "Dazzlingly Dizzying Battle" event, where she tried to improve on her skills as a battler (recalling the promise she made in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire to try out battling) with help from Hilda, who she was ultimately able to defeat in a battle. In the opening for the Solo Event "Lear Takes the Lead", Lisia was accidentally teleported by Lear's Hoopa in the middle of a concert, and she was frustrated by this, but Lear decided to distract onlookers by taking part in Pokémon battles while she made her way back to the stage. In the Solo Event "For the Fans", Elesa guest starred in Lisia's show, and the two of them admired each other - Elesa admired Lisia's fan support, while Lisia found Elesa to be very cool. In the "Pasio Friendiversary" Story Event, she held a Contest Spectacular called Lisia's Miraculous Pokémon Contest Spectacular as part of an event commemorating Lear and Hoopa's friendiversary. She scouted May as a Pokémon Coordinator in the process and convinced her to try becoming a contest idol when she returned to Hoenn. She was later featured in the "Gather Up! Dream Duo" Story Event, in which she decided to hold a new year's live show after having a dream about it and had Wallace help her with preparations. Valerie agreed to design a costume for her as long as she formed an idol duo with Dawn, as she liked the way their Pokémon (her Rapidash and Dawn's Oricorio) worked together. They agreed and successfully pulled off the show after Kali managed to bring them the outfits just in time for their performance. By forming an idol duo with Dawn, Lisia also fulfilled the last thing she remembered from her dream.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, she appeared during the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire arc, where she talked with Ruby about his career as a Coordinator and was angry at the idea that he might be quitting. She also did her part to help against the meteoroid and gave Contest Costumes to Ruby and Sapphire.
  • In the Pokémon anime, Lisia made several appearances during the Pokémon Journeys series. She appeared at the Lilycove City Contest Hall, where she scouted Chloe, and it was shown that she was working together with Serena to liven up Hoenn's Contest scene. Lisia and Serena ultimately tied for first place in a Master Rank Contest Spectacular, and Lisia suggested that they form an idol duo together. As in the games, she had an Altaria named Ali that could Mega Evolve.

Trivia[edit]

  • Her Japanese name is Lutia, which may be referencing the Japanese name for the plant genus Haworthia and may also be intended to sound evocative of the Japanese names for Altaria and Sootopolis City. Her English name of Lisia seems to be based on her Japanese name and may also be intended to be evocative of 'Sootopolis' and the plant genus 'lisianthus'.
  • Her Key Stone is contained within her Mega Tiara.
  • Wallace mentions that Lisia's mother is his older sister, and that Lisia does not live in Sootopolis currently.
