Lip is a fairy who was featured as the main character of Panel de Pon.

Background[edit]

Lip was one of the fairies living in the world of Popples. She was known as the Fairy of Flowers and was the daughter of the world's queen. Her magic was weaker than that of the other fairies, so she could only act spells with the power of her magic wand. Lip fought for good and justice, and she was also known for being somewhat of a tomboy. She was close to the other fairies of Popples and considered them to be her best friends.

Within the Vs. mode of Panel de Pon, the world of Popples was besieged by monsters. A constant rainfall was flooding the world, and all of Lip's friends had been turned evil by the monsters' magic. Lip traversed across a series of islands via rainbow bridges, and one by one, she restored her friends to normal by defeating them in puzzle battles. After they were all freed, they traveled to Death Mountain and battled the monsters: Phoenix, Dragon, Thanatos and finally Cordelia. After Cordelia was defeated, the curse was lifted in the land. Lip then discovered that Cordelia was actually her mother, and that she had orchestrated the whole incident in order to test Lip. Lip had proven herself capable of leading the world's new generation, and so it was appointed as the world's new queen.

In the game's Stage Clear mode, Lip was featured as the host of the Round 1 stages.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • Lip was depicted in an image with several Mario characters during a Spring 1998 broadcast of Satella-Q'.
  • Some of the games based on Panel de Pon have special stages in which Lip appears: specifically Pokémon Puzzle Challenge (through a cheat code), Planet Puzzle League and Puzzle League Express. In the latter two games, Lip's stage was only present in the Japanese version.
  • Within the Super Smash Bros. series, Lip's wand has been featured as an item since Super Smash Bros. Melee and is referred to as Lip's Stick. It can be used to strike enemies and causes a flower to grow on the victims' head, which temporarily will cause gradual damage to the character. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Lip appeared as an Ace-rank Support Spirit and as a costume for Mii Swordfighters. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Lip's Spirit would possess a Mii Swordfighter wearing her costume, start the battle armed with Lip's Stick and be accompanied by Jigglypuff.
  • Lip appeared in Captain Rainbow. She came to Mimin Island in hopes of becoming a great magician. Lip was shown to be struggling with a pollen allergy, and Nick had to help her to cast a spell on a Piranha Plant.
  • In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Lip's clothes, wig and wand could be unlocked by playing a version of Panel de Pon that was available as a minigame.

Trivia[edit]

  • Her mascot character is Furifuri the Rabbit, a sleepy rabbit.
  • In other versions of the game, Lip's replacements have included Yoshi (Tetris Attack), Ash Ketchum (Pokémon Puzzle League), Ethan (Pokémon Puzzle Challenge) and Furil (the Nintendo Puzzle Collection version of Panel de Pon). Furil specifically is like an alternate version of Lip, as she has a very similar design and is also known as a Flower Fairy.
  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Lip's name was erroneously used in English versions of the game for a sticker that was actually of Furil.
  • The character of Minh T. in Paper Mario, which was developed by the same company as Panel de Pon, seems to be a reference to Lip. They have the same name in Japanese as well as similarly-colored hair and clothing. Minh T. is also known for her love of flowers.
