The Lanmola is an enemy that made several appearances in the early Zelda games. Lanmolas often appear as bosses, or sometimes as lesser enemies.

Information[edit]

The Legend of Zelda[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda, Lanmolas appear as enemies within Ganon's Death Mountain lair. They are usually found in pairs, and each Lanmola has one eye. There are two varieties, the red Lanmola and the faster/more powerful blue Lanmola. This version of Lanmola is segmented and loses a segment with each blow until it is killed. They can easily be defeated through fire attacks.

A Link to the Past[edit]

A trio of Lanmolas appear as the boss of the Desert Palace in A Link to the Past, where they guard the Pendant of Wisdom. These large Lanmolas attack by jumping out of the sand and flying through the air momentarily before tunneling back underground. They also shoot out harmful debris each time they emerge from the sand. Link can harm the Lanmolas by attacking their head or tail with his sword, or with the Ice Rod.

The Lanmolas later appeared in a room of Ganon's Palace. However, the only addition to the original fight was a statue that spat fireballs.

Link's Awakening[edit]

The Lanmola, looking similar to its appearance in A Link to the Past, also appeared as a boss of sorts in the Yarna Desert of Link's Awakening. Its attack pattern remained the same from the previous game, except that Link battled the Lanmola in quicksand pit. After the Lanmola was defeated, it left behind the Angler Key.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Cadence of Hyrule, a Lanmola appears as a miniboss enemy. It is mostly similar to its original appearance in The Legend of Zelda.

Trivia[edit]

  • It has one eye in its initial appearance, while in later games it seems to have two.
  • Similar creatures include the Twinmold and Molgera, both of which are sand-jumping work creatures. Another similar creature is the Moldorm, another worm creature that appeared in the same game.
  • In the final battle of Link's Awakening, one of DethI's forms is known as Lanmola's Shadow.
