Krabby is a crab-like Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. Its evolved form is Kingler.

Information[edit]

Krabby live on beaches within holes that they bury into the sand, and they often squabble with each other over territory. Its pincers act as both superb weapons and as an instrument to keep balance while it walks sideways. The pincers sometimes break off during battle, but they grow back fast. However, a Krabby also becomes incapable of walking sideways during periods where it is missing a pincer.

Krabby can cloak itself in bubbles produced from its mouth to appear larger if it senses danger approaching. It can also survive off of sand if it cannot find any food by absorbing the sand's nutrients. It evolves into Kingler at Level 28.

Krabby was also part of Gary's three-Pokémon team during the first battle against him Pokémon Puzzle League and became a Kingler by the rematch. Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Krabby made a cameo appearance among a group of Pokémon seen during the game's intro sequence.

Other Media[edit]

  • Ash Ketchum caught a Krabby early in the Pokémon anime series with a minimal struggle. It was his seventh Pokémon and so was the first one to be sent back to Professor Oak. Ash did not use it until the Indigo League tournament, where it was surprisingly able to defeat an Exeggutor and immediately evolved into Kingler. Gary was also shown to own a Krabby that was much larger than Ash's.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Red caught a Krabby offscreen during the time he was training Blue's Pokémon in the Red/Blue/Green arc. He later traded it to Misty for her Gyarados so he that he could Surf, as he had accidentally destroyed his own HM 05 without teaching Surf to any of his Pokémon. Krabby has occasionally been used by Misty since, and she was later seen rescuing a different Krabby at Tohjo Falls in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc when Suicune confronted her.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on "crabby", which of course is a pun due to it being a crab.
