Knuckle is a recurring character from several The Legend of Zelda games. He is one of Tingle's younger brothers, and is the twin brother of Ankle. He is often coerced into working for Tingle. He is originally described as the "good-for-nothing" brother whom Ankle usually has to bail out of trouble.

Background[edit]

In The Wind Waker, Knuckle was described as a carver. He had carved Tingle Tower as a child, finishing it when he was only ten years old, and the head of the tower was his studio. He also carved the golden Tingle statues. Knuckle later ran away after Tingle drew graffiti on the tower and hid on Outset Island. He could only be found by using the Tingle Tuner and completing the challenges he set forth. After Link discovered him, Knuckle reluctantly returned to Tingle Island, but he mostly made sure no one else drew graffiti on the tower. He also congratulated Link by giving him the Hand-Me-Down Tingle Tuner. With this, Link could buy items from Knuckle whenever he wanted.

In Four Swords Adventures, Knuckle made a small appearance during the Tingle Tower mini-games. In The Minish Cap, he and the other members of the Tingle entourage were in different locations around Hyrule. Like the others, Knuckle was fusing kinstones in order to meet fairies. He was situated in a cave in the Trilby Highlands and would tell Link how many more times he had to fuse kinstones.

Trivia[edit]

  • His Nintendo Gallery entry is rather confusing with the line "Supposedly, he felt unsatisfied completing his collection without this figure [the Knuckle figurine]," implying that he is also a member of Club Nintendo. Knuckle's trophy is the only one that can be missed in the game; if every other trophy is collected prior to Knuckle's, Carlov will leave the studio and does not return.
  • In Breath of the Wild, one island off Hyrule's eastern coast is named Knuckel Island in reference to him. It is located in a chain of islands named after Tingle and the rest of his group.
