Keldeo is a colt-like event Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation of the Pokémon series as the fourth member of the three legendary musketeer Pokémon.

Information[edit]

Keldeo is a small Pokémon that resembles a horse and is known for its bright red mane, lush tail and its single, noble horn. It is associated with water and has been known to appear at scenic waterfronts. Keldeo can glide across bodies water by blasting water from its hooves. They run over the surfaces of rivers and oceans while exploring the world. Keldeo is also known to excel at using leg moves during battles.

According to Unovan legend, Keldeo originally lived at the forest of the Moor of Icirrus long ago. When the forest was sent on fire, Keldeo was separated from its parents, but it was taken in by the three legendary Pokémon Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion. They acted as Keldeo's new parents and taught it all of the moves and skills that it needed to survive. Keldeo learned quickly and was able to surpass the skills of its teachers. It eventually disappeared from the forest, with one old man believing that it was due to Keldeo being young, reckless and drawn to adventure.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Keldeo has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained through Nintendo events. In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, after the player has obtained one, an event could be unlocked by bringing Keldeo to the Moor with the other three legendary musketeers. Keldeo will want to leave its Pokémon, at which point an old man would appear to teach the history of Keldeo. Afterwards, the trio emerged from their Pokéballs to teach Keldeo one last move, Secret Sword.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Keldeo (in its Resolue Forme) has appeared as one of the Pokémon that can be summoned at random from the Poké Ball item starting in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U. When summoned, it would try to chase opponents down and extend its horn in an attempt to slash them with the Secret Sword attack. Keldeo has also been represented by a trophy in the 3DS/Wii U game and as two stages of a Primary Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Its initial Spirit is an Ace-rank Spirit of Keldeo's Ordinary Forme, and at Level 99, it could be enhanced into a Legend-rank Spirit of Keldeo's Resolute Forme, which granted Hyper Smash Attacks. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Keldeo's Spirit would possess a Lucario in a stamina battle, where its Final Smash meter could start quickly, and the battle would start with a Keldeo being released from a Poké Ball.

Trivia[edit]

  • Keldeo follows the "three musketeer" theme by matching d'Argente, who was the fourth member of the Three Musketeers and was their most junior member. Keldeo's name is a play on "kelpie" (a type of water horse from Celtic mythology) possibly combined with "rodeo" (a show associated with horses).
