Hooktail is the boss of the first chapter in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Background[edit]

Hooktail is the youngest of three dragons. Although few know it, it is fact a female (as revealed by Gloomtail). Her older siblings are Gloomtail and Bonetail. She rules over her own private fortress known better as Hooktail's Castle. Her diet consists of whatever she can eat. However, one time during her youth she ate some crickets. Those crickets caused her so much indigestion that the sound of crickets has made her nauseous ever since. The dragon siblings have been around for at least a thousand years, having served the Shadow Queen as her pets during her reign.

During her time, she was confronted by many a people who sought to stop her. Her castle, which was one of the original castles built to contain the Crystal Stars, is filled with the bones, possibly having been killed because of her. In fact, Kolorado's own father died trying to stop her. Koopley himself went to fight her, but was eaten. He did, however, manage to survive all those years in his shell otherwise unhurt. As she continued to cause trouble for Petalburg, the son of Koopley, Koops tried to work up courage enough to go. When Mario arrived looking for the Crystal Star, he quickly joined forces with Koops and they went into Hooktail's castle. Using a special badge, the 'Attack FX R' badge, Mario's attacks were made into the sound of a cricket, which sickened Hooktail. After being nearly defeated, she devoured some of the audience to heal her. As a final resort, she tried to bribe Mario by letting him, among many things, have great riches and smelling her 'divine' feet. Mario of course did not fall for this and defeated her.
