Bosses[edit]

With the exception of K. Rool himself, all of the bosses are fought within arenas made out of piles of countless bananas.

Very Gnawty[edit]

Very Gnawty was a giant Gnawty who served as the boss of the Kongo Jungle and was fought in a level called Very Gnawty's lair. Rather than walking, he moved by making hopping around. His attack pattern consisted simply of moving back and forth across the arena, and he could be hurt by jumping on his head. Very Gnawty became faster each time he was hit, and he was defeated with five hits.

He was originally depicted with greenish fur that matched the coloring of a generic Gnawty. In the Game Boy Advance remake, his fur color was changed to red (which was originally the fur color of Really Gnawty, whose fur color was also changed), and he would also make a big leap to the other side of the screen after being hit. In the remake, Very Gnawty could also make an extra cameo appearance by revisiting Donkey Kong's tree house after defeating Really Gnawty. Very Gnawty would be found within the tree house and immediately flee upon the sight of the Kongs.

Master Necky[edit]

Master Necky (possibly the son of Master Necky Snr., which would make him a Junior) was a giant Necky who appeared as the boss of the Monkey Mines in a level called Necky's Nuts. He is large enough that only his neck and head appear onscreen. During battle, Master Necky's head could appear from either side of the screen, and he would attack by spitting large coconuts. Master Necky could be defeated by jumping on his head five times, and the stage contained a bouncy tire in the center that could be used to help reach Master Necky's head.

In the Game Boy Advance version, Master Necky would turn red before attacking and would be temporarily invulnerable in that moment. The remake also added him to the boss battle with Master Necky Snr. in the Chimp Caverns, making it so that the player had to battle both of them. Each of them had to be hit five times in order to defeat them.

Queen B.[edit]

Queen B. was a giant Zinger who appeared as the boss of Vine Valley, in a stage called Bumble B. Rumble. She moved back and forth across the screen in an attempt to hit either of the Kongs. She could only be hurt by throwing barrels at her. After being hit, Queen B. would turn red and temporarily invincible while making more erratic movements around the screen for a few moments, before returning back to her normal color and movements. She also became faster after each hit. Queen B. could be defeated with five hits.

In the Game Boy Advance remake, Queen B. would also surround herself with Zingers after turning red, and those Zingers had to be defeated before continuing the battle. She also always used the more erratic movement patterns that she had only used when she was red in the original.

The sequel also featured a Zinger king named King Zing, but it is unknown if the two Zinger monarchs are connected.

Really Gnawty[edit]

Really Gnawty was the boss of the Gorilla Glacier who was fought in a level called Really Gnawty Rampage. Really Gnawty was a color swap of Very Gnawty who had a similar attack pattern, except that he was faster and could make high vertical jumps. After being hit, not only would he become faster, but he would also he make one additional high jump before resuming his normal attack pattern. Really Gnawty would be defeated after five hits.

This boss was colored red in the original version, but was changed to more of a gray color in the Game Boy Advance remake (while Very Gnawty got the reddish fur). The remake also added to his attack pattern, as instead of jumping high after being hit, he would jump across the screen and cause stalactites to fall from above.

Dumb Drum[edit]

Dumb Drum was a large living black drum that appeared as the boss of Kremkroc Industries, Inc. and was fought in a level called Boss Dumb Drum. Dumb Drum would make an attempt to crush the Kongs and then would release enemies to fight them for it. The Kongs would have to defeat all of the enemies to progress through the battle. There were five waves of enemies that had to be defeated: Kritters, Slippas, Klaptraps, Klumps and finally Armys. It would also make an additional attempt to crush the Kongs from above after each wave was defeated.

In the original version, Dumb Drum would automatically be destroyed after it ran out of enemies to dispense. The Game Boy Advance version changed it so that the Kongs actually had to hurt Dumb Drum with a TNT Barrel that would appear after each wave of enemies was defeated. Dumb Drum would repeat the last wave of enemies if the TNT Barrel missed.

Master Necky Snr.[edit]

Master Necky Snr. was a giant Necky who served as the boss of the Chimp Caverns and the penultimate boss of the game. He was battled in a stage called Necky's Revenge. He is a pinker color swap of the other Master Necky and also has faster attacks. He could be defeated by jumping on him five times. In the Game Boy Advance remake, the other Master Necky joined him for the boss battle, and each of them had to be hit five times to win the battle.

K. Rool[edit]

The game's final boss was King K. Rool himself, battled on the deck of the Gangplank Galleon. He could be harmed by stomping on his head while it was exposed whenever he tossed his crown. In the first phase, he tossed his crown and ran back and forth across on the ship. In the second phase, he would jump from one side of the screen to the other while cannonballs dropped down crush the Kongs. K. Rool was apparently defeated after that phase, causing a fake "Kredits" to roll, until K. Rool sprung to life again. For his final phase, he would hop back and forth across the stage and throw his crown. K. Rool would then be defeated for good after that phase.
