Amiti is one of the playable party members of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. He is a prince of Ayuthay who becomes the fourth party member and second playable Mercury Adept within the game.
Background[edit]
Amiti was the result of an affair between Veriti, who was part of Ayuthay's royal family, and the passing Mercury Adept known as Alex. Alex had left, most likely unaware of Veriti's pregnancy. She died soon after giving birth to Amiti. This incident was covered up by his uncle Paithos, who ruled over Ayuthay. Thus, Amiti was raised believing that he literally had no father and had been the result of miraculous conception of her mother. He was raised as the prince of Ayuthay and was also good friends with Baghi, who was the grandson of Passaj's elder.
Dark Dawn[edit]
Ayuthay was eventually caught up in a war against Kaocho, but Ayuthay was able to avoid combat by taking shelter in their hidden underground city. The only people who found a way in were a group of travelers led by Matthew. As this group was comprised of Adepts, Amiti's people were bound to offer them hospitality due to their ancient bonds with the Jenei people. The group held an audience with King Paithos and Amiti, both of whom welcomed Tyrell's blunt honesty, and they soon learned that the group had been caught up in a warzone while trying to find a way to restore Passaj's Alchemy Forge. It was compared to Ayuthay's own machine, the Alchemy Well. Although Amiti had been told that restoring the Alchemy Well was his mother's doing, Paithos finally told the truth. Amiti learned that he had a father, though no one in Ayuthay had learned his name, and that it had actually been his father whom had restored the Alchemy Well.
Matthew's group was granted permission by Paithos to enter the Barai Temple in search of the Insight glass, and Amiti volunteered to tag along. His presence wound up being vital, as within the temple, the Insight glass chose him as its master. Amiti was excited by this and felt that he had learned the meaning of his life. He chose to leave Ayuthay and join with Matthew's group in order to do his part for Ayuthay to help the world. Paithos was reluctant to let him go, but he was convinced by Amiti's convictions. He first had to change into more appropriate traveling clothes at Karis's suggestion, however. With Amiti's Insight, they were able to navigate the Ouroboros Labyrinth for the Sol Mask and then used it to activate the Alchemy Forge at Passaj. He was reunited with Baghi there and was glad that the machines of both their people were working together to change the land for the better. Amiti saw this as the beginning of a new golden age and did not think that he was turning his back on Ayuthay by traveling with Matthew, as he believed that he would return home as a wiser man.
After both machines were activated, the group crossed the mountains and began their exploits in the northern part of Angara. Amiti became most outspoken at Port Rago when Briggs asked them to rescue his son Eoleo, as Amiti did not approve of helping such "sea thugs". Karis and the other members of the group attempted to convince him of the moral complexity of the situation. Soon afterwards, they traveled to Kolima Forest, where Amiti was overwhelmed to recognize Laurel, whom he knew as a divine being. Laurel denied being truly divine, but Amiti continued to bow to her and demand that his companions paid equal respect. Tret then showed his face and most interestingly was able to detect that Amiti was related to Mia in some way, just like one of their other companions, Mia's son Rief. Amiti was confused by this, but Tret did not elaborate further.
The group later traveled into Belinsk Ruins in search of their new companion Sveta. Deep within the ruins, they were confronted by Arcanus and his companions Blados and Chalis by the Alchemy Dynamo. This was the first time that Amiti was in the same room as his father, Alex/Arcanus, although neither seemed to recognize the other. They wound up evacuating the area after Ryu Ku activated the Alchemy Dynamo, which unsealed the Luna Tower and began the Grave Eclipse. Alex did arrange for Morgal's prisoners to be freed in turn, which included Eoleo. Amiti remained reluctant to help Eoleo, due to how ungrateful he seemed, and Eoleo proceeded to provoke Amiti by making fun of his people's clothing style. With the Eclipse's monsters terrorizing Belinsk, Matthew's group was lucky to find an escape route through Briggs's ship. However, they found Briggs was fatally wounded by a monster attack. Amiti was both touched by this and surprised to owe his life to a pirate.
They then roamed the ocean to gather everything that they needed to reach the Apollo Lens and stop the apocalypse. It was possible to return to Ayuthay at this point. If Amiti returned, he would find Paithos bedridden and believing himself to be dying. Paithos was glad to be able to step down and let Amiti become king, but Amiti refused to let him die. Paithos responded by promising to stay alive at least until Amiti's quest was complete. They eventually reached the Apollo Lens at last, where Arcanus revealed his true name to be Alex and wound up helping them for unknown reasons by trying to fight Blados and Chalis. Matthew's group was then forced to fight one final enemy before they could use the Apollo Lens, a Chaos Hound accompanied by Blados and Chalis which was then modified into a Chaos Chimera. Matthew and Sveta then worked to activate the Apollo Lens, but reading Amiti's mind showed that he was confused about why his mind kept on drifting to Alex.
When the Eclipse was ended and the adventure complete, Matthew and his companions went their separate ways. Amiti decided to return home, although Paithos's fate is unknown so it is also unknown whether or not Amiti had to become king of Ayuthay.
Abilities[edit]
Amiti is a Mercury Adept, which makes him attuned to water-based Psynergies. However, most of his abilities are a variable depending on his class (which can change depending on which Djinn are assigned to him) and which special items he has equipped. The only Psynergies that he automatically knows or learns over the course of the game are Douse and Insight. In battle, he wields light blades, staves and bows.
Trivia[edit]
- His parentage is hinted throughout the game to be Alex, with Tret's statement making Alex the only suspect due to his being the only known living relative of Mia's, and Amiti's thoughts about Alex at the end of the game only compound this. A supplementary character chart provided by Nintendo of America, though containing some errors, confirms Alex as Amiti's father.
