Stantler is an endangered reindeer-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games and lacks an evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Stantler have special curved antlers which subtly change the flow of air around it to create a strange space where reality is distorted. Those who stare at their antlers will have a strange feeling of being drawn to the round ball on each antler, and the person will gradually lose control of their senses until they can no longer stand. The round balls on their antlers could be ground into a powder that helps will sleeping. Additionally, Stantler's antlers are prized as works of art and sold for high prices. This has caused Stantler to be hunted to the brink of extinction.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Stantler appeared rarely at Route 36 and uncommonly at Route 37. In Crystal, Stantler was more common but only appeared at Route 37 at night. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Stantler was also found in the Safari Zone's Plains area at night. Stantler could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's Treehouse course, and it could be transferred from there to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald, Stantler could appear at the Altering Cave with use of an e-card, and in Emerald it also rarely appeared at the Safari Zone's extension. In Pearl and Platinum, Stantler could be found at Route 207 when the Pokéradar was used. In Black and White, it was uncommonly found at Abundant Shrine.

Other Games[edit]

A Shadow Stantler could be snagged from Chaser Liaks at The Under in Pokémon Colossuem, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 13, Endless Level 35, Forever Level 12 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the fifth through ninth floors of Mt. Thunder and the thirty-first through thirty-fifth floors of Joyous Tower, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it was recruitable at the sixth through eleventh floors of Foggy Forest and the first seventeen floors of Shimmer Hill. It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Teakwood Forest and the Dark Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Johto series featured a lost Stantler fawn that was able to create the illusion of a herd, but Brock was able to see through it and helped to reunite the Stantler with its actual herd. One special also showed Stantler as Santa Claus's Pokémon which pulled his sleigh (in place of the Ponyta that had been previously used). Stantler had made various other primarily minor appearances, and they were also featured in an early episode of the Sinnoh series where Ash's group got lost in a forest full of Stantler that subjected them to various illusions. Paul caught one of the Stantler but ultimately released it due to considering it to be weak.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Stantler was shown as one of Professor Oak's Pokémon during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, which he used in battle and also rode on.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name seems to be a combination of "stare" (due to its antlers resembling eyes and people having a tendency to stare at them) with "antler".
