Sealeo is a powerful seal-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the middle form of Spheal's evolutionary line and evolves into Walrein.

Information[edit]

Sealeo evolves from Spheal at Level 32. Sealeo habitually spin objects (and sometimes even the small Spheal) on their noses. They do so to learn textures or colors, as Sealeo has a sensitive nose that can test for smell and feel upon touch. It always checks something's aroma when rolling it on its nose to see if it likes it or not. Sealeo typically live in herds on ice floes. It can shatter ice with its powerful flippers and dives into the water five times a day in search of prey.

It can evolve into Walrein at Level 44.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Pearl Versions, it was rarely found while surfing at Routes 226 and 230, while in Platinum, it was more common but only appeared at Route 230. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Mountain area if enough Water and Rock objects were present. In Black and White, they could be found somewhat commonly by surfing in rippling water at Undella Bay, but they only appeared during winter.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Sealeo could only be obtained by evolving a Spheal, but it was also featured in a bonus area. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Endless Level 12, Endless Level 29, Forever Level 61 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the thirty-fourth through thirty-ninth floors of Stormy Sea, the twenty-sixth through thirty-third floors of Silver Trench and the thirty-fifth through forty-forth floors of Far-off Sea. It was also recruitable in Explorers of Time and Darkness at the sixth through ninth basement floors of Craggy Coast. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Crysta Cave and Hia Valley. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Mt. Sorbet and the Ice Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Sealeo was first featured in an episode of the Hoenn series where it was Captan Stern's main Pokémon. Another Sealeo appeared later on as part of Juan's team. Sealeo have also made other more minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Sealeo was shown as part of Wallace's team during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Sealeo's name is a play on "sea lion" (the animal it is based on) with "leo" being used as a synonym for "lion".
