Background[edit]
Arylll was a friendly young girl who lived at Outset Island with her brother Link and their grandmother. She was always happy and was known for her love of seagulls. Aryll's most prized possession was her telescope, which she usually used to look for birds. Her favorite spot was one lookout tower that she called Aryll's Lookout. Aryll was also eager to help the family in any way that she could, so she intended to learn how to fetch water using jars from Sue-Belle.
She wakes Link up on his birthday and lets him know that Grandma was waiting for him with a present. Aryll then gave Link her present, which was her telescope, but she only intended to lend it to him for the day. Using the telescope, they then noticed Tetra's struggle with the Helmaroc King as it flew overhead, which ended with Tetra being dropped in the forest atop the island. Aryll implored Link to find a way to help her. Although Link succeeded in this venture, the Helmaroc King then snatched Aryll up due to her also being of Hylian descent. Aryll was taken to the Forsaken Fortress by the bird and was left in a cell with Maggie and Mila. They remained there for some time until Link and Tetra arrived to save her.
Aryll spent the remainder of the game in the care of Tetra's pirates on her pirate ship. Although she was initially scared, Aryll eventually befriended the pirates. She also was paid to help them with their chores. Aryll sent Link a letter at one point, assuring him that she was fine and giving him permission to continue using her telescope for a while, but she wanted it back eventually. Arull also got a new dress during her time with the pirates, either as a gift or possibly bought with the money she had made. Aryll was on the pirate ship when Link and Tetra were retrieved from the sea at the end of the game. She was then returned to Outset Island and waved goodbye to Link when he embarked on his new quest.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, Aryll has been represented by a trophy and sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and an Ace-rank Support Spirit (with the effect of boosting stats when badly damaged) in 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Aryll's Spirit would possess a female Villager and fight alongside Toon Link in a battle where her attack power is strengthened.
- Aryll makes a minor appearance in Hyrule Warriors; whenever Toon Link is on a map, she will communicate through the Pirate's Charm to support him.
Trivia[edit]
- Aryll seems to be loosely inspired by Marin from Link's Awakening, especially as character design notes showed that she originally had a name which sounded closer to Marin's (Mariru). The connection can be seen in Aryll's love of seagulls, and a flower design on her dress which is similar to the flower in Marin's hair which is depicted in her official artwork.
- During a second playthrough, Aryll wears her second dress for the duration of the game.
- Although there Aryll does not appear in Phantom Hourglass, she is referenced during the trading sidequest when Nyeve (who acts as a parody of Link in The Wind Waker) provides a telescope (which turns out to actually be a kaleidoscope) that he claims to have borrowed from his little sister, although he then says he was joking about it.
