Yoshi is a puzzle game simultaneously released for the NES and Gameboy in 1991. It is also known as Yoshi no Tamago or Yoshi's Egg in Japan, and as Mario and Yoshi in Europe. It is notable as the first game to feature Yoshi's name in the title, especially since this is only his second appearance following his introduction in Super Mario World.

Gameplay

In this game the player controlled Mario. There were four trays on the screen while Mario could shuffle around while enemies and pieces of Yoshi eggs fell from the sky. By shuffling the trays around, Mario could match two of the same enemies could match and disappear. Pieces of the Yoshi eggs could also be united to clear more enemies and gain bonus points.

Legacy

Yoshi never received a direct sequel, but it was succeeded by another Yoshi-themed puzzle game, Yoshi's Cookie.

Rereleases

In 2007 the NES version was released for the Virtual Console in Japan.
