Debut Super Mario World

One of the difficulties in properly doing info on a character like Yoshi is determining when he is, in fact a character or just a generic yoshi. A close friend of the Mario Brothers, Yoshi enjoys participating in races, tennis matches, golf tournaments, and so forth. His first meeting with the brother is difficult to pinpoint however. The most obvious seems to be in 'Super Mario World' when his fellow yoshis are trapped and imprisoned by Bowser. However, it's always possible he was the green one in the group of yoshis that transported Baby Mario in 'Yoshi's Island'.

Regardless of their first meeting, Yoshi has gone on only a few more adventures. In 'Super Mario RPG', Yoshi is found vacationing on Yo'ster Isle. There, with the help of Mario, he manages to challenge and beat the top racer Boshi. In 'Yoshi's Safari', he once more is Mario's mount as they set off to save Jewelry Land from Bowser's iron fist. In 'Super Mario 64', Yoshi sees Mario, Luigi, and Wario enter Peach's Castle but not come out. Out of curiousity, he enters the castle and finds that they've all been captured inside paintings. Collecting stars and defeating the likes of Bob-Omb King and Goomboss, he rescues Mario (and in turn, they work to rescue Luigi, Wario, and Peach). Aside from that, he himself has had no other notable adventures outside of the aforementioned sports and parties. Like most yoshis, his skills vary between egg-throwing, fire-breathing, and famous flutter jump. He is often partnered up with Birdo and it's implied there may be some relationship there, though there is probably nothing substantial there.

Trivia

  • He's named Yoshi in Japanese and English, which is no big deal, but when trying to give him a code name to differentiate him from the species of yoshis, it's a lot more difficult.
