Debut Mario & Wario

Wanda is a fairy featured in the Japanese-only Mario & Wario. Despite not being the titular character, she is actually the main playable character.

Background[edit]

In her original appearance, she is controlled using the Super Famicom mouse. After Wario has gone around dropping buckets (and other objects) on the heads of Mario, Peach, and Yoshi. Rather than remove the item from their head, she had to guide them safely to Luigi, who would wait at the end of a stage to remove the bucket from their head. At the end of each world, she would battle Wario in his Bulldog. Guiding them safely required her to use her wand to defeat enemies, remove obstacles, and to turn the person she was guiding around. At the very end, the character Wanda was guiding boarded their own plane and dropped a bucket on Wario, sending the menace crashing into the ground.

A fairy also appears in the NES version of Wario's Woods to help Toad along with Birdo. This fairy is commonly believed to be Wanda. To help Toad, she would drop bombs to help him clear a row of tiles. When not active, she would be replaced by a Pidgit instead.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Wanda appeared as a Novice-rank Support Spirit who boosted magical attack power. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Wanda would possess a tiny version of Palutena. Mario, Peach and Yoshi could appear in turn as reinforcements in the battle, in reference to Mario & Wario.

Trivia[edit]

  • Wanda would seem to have some sort of rivalry against Wario, as both of her potential appearances have her battling him.
