'''Toadsworth''' is a recurring side character from the ''[[Portal: Mario|Super Mario]]'' series who acts as Princess [[Peach]]'s steward. He looks after both her safety and of the upkeep of Peach's Castle, and he often attempts to supervise her when she travels outside of the kingdom, as futile as it is when someone is kidnapped as often as Peach is. He has served the princess for her entire life. He appeared prominently in various games made in the 2000's, but his appearances have since became much scarcer.

=Background=

Toadsworth was first seen in ''[[Super Mario Sunshine]]'', where he escorted [[Mario]] and Peach on their vacation to Isle [[Delfino]]. Despite his attempts to keep a watchful eye, Peach was kidnapped by [[Shadow Mario]]. Afterwards, he tried to provide advice to Mario as he journeyed to rescue her. After Peach was rescued and [[Bowser]] was thwarted, they were all able to truly enjoy their vacation.

He performed the same role as Peach's caring escort in ''[[Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga]]'' and ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. He ended up worrying again, but at least in these instances, he was able make friendly with the local ladies ([[Lady Lima]] and [[Zess T.]], respectively).

In ''[[Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time]]'', Toadsworth's worrying got so severe that he went into shock, though he was quick to recover with a Refreshroom. The Mario Bros. ran into a young Toadsworth while in the past, who followed them into the present with Baby Peach in tow. Young and old Toadsworth clashed at first, neither recognizing each other. They continued to butt heads throughout the adventure, since young Toadsworth was somewhat less panicky and more careless with Peach's safety. Their efforts to keep Baby Peach entertained provided the Mario Bros. with several new abilities to emulate, such as the Spin Jump and Ball Bros.

He also appeared during the opening of ''[[Super Princess Peach]]'', where he had bought the mysterious talking parasol [[Perry]] from a merchant. Being among the few not captured by Bowser's minions, he reluctantly allowed Peach to set out to rescue the Mario Bros., and he entrusted her with Perry to protect her. During ''[[New Super Mario Bros.]]'', Toadsworth was found in each Toad House, where he used his magic wand to cause item boxes to appear for Mario to find different power-ups from. In ''[[Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story]]'', Toadsworth attended the meeting at the beginning of the game, where he criticized [[Starlow]]'s manners and also offered tutorial advice to Mario and Luigi during their fight with Bowser. He was later sucked into Bowser's body along with everyone else in the room. The brothers found him within the Pump Works, after which he joined the other Toads in Toad Square. He was shown to come up to the Lumbar Nook in his spare time during his stay within Bowser's body, finding it soothing to his soul and similar to his own room. Toadsworth treated [[Toadbert]] to tea there while Mario and Luigi fixed Bowser's back. They were freed at the end of the game, at which point Toadsworth spoke harshly towards Bowser.

When Peach was invited to visit [[Pi'illo Island]] in ''[[Mario & Luigi: Dream Team]]'', Toadsworth was among the entourage that traveled there with her. He tried to deter the princess's reckless behavior when she wanted to find treasure hidden in the castle, but ultimately she ended up accidentally getting both of them trapped in the ruins. Mario and Luigi soon arrived to help them, though after Luigi opened a portal to the dream world, Peach was sucked into it and captured by [[Antasma]]. Toadsworth began to worry for her once again. Mario and Luigi were able to bring her back, and later on Peach and Toadsworth tried to seek shelter at the Driftwood Shore in hopes of eluding Bowser, who had gained the power of the [[Dream Stone]]. Toadsworth and Peach spent some time disguised as block people working for [[Madam Bloque]], until Peach implored Mario and Luigi to find a place in the dream world for her to hide. Ultimately, Toadsworth was horrified and ashamed with himself to learn that Peach had already been captured by Bowser and replaced with [[Kamek]] in a dress, without him noticing. In the end, Toadsworth was relieved when Peach was finally rescued, and they proceeded to enjoy the rest of their vacation.

=Sports=

Toadsworth has also played roles in a few of the sports games, most of which are non-playable. In ''[[Mario Kart: Double Dash!!]]'', he drove the winners of a race around in his Parade Kart and was part of the audience at [[Waluigi]] Stadium. In ''[[Mario Power Tennis]]'', he acted as the umpire and commentator for the matches. In ''[[Mario Tennis: Power Tour]]'', he was the umpire for matches held in the Peach Dome, and he and Mario also escorted [[Clay (Mario Tennis)|Clay]] and [[Ace]] to the Mushroom Kingdom on the Toad Express. A statue of Toadsworth was seen on Peach's Castle Ground in ''[[Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour]]'', and he also appeared at Peach's Castle in ''[[Mario Golf: Advance Tour]]''.

He was only playable in ''[[Mario Superstar Baseball]]'' and ''[[Mario Super Sluggers]]''. Toadsworth batted with his cane and had a high compatibility with Peach, [[Toad]], and [[Toadette]]. In the Challenge Mode of ''Mario Super Sluggers'', he appeared in the Peach Ice Gardens area and alerted [[Mario]] about the flooded fountain. When he witnessed Princess Peach being captured by Bowser Jr., he joined Mario's baseball team in order to help save her. He additionally acted as the shopkeeper for that area.

Toadsworth acted as the host of ''[[Mario Party 7]]'', where he decided to repay Mario and his friends for their good deeds by organizing a cruise around the world for them. The cruise was disrupted by Bowser, who wanted revenge for not being invited. Toadsworth still did his job as host of the game's boards and also ran the Duty Free Shop.

*In the ''[[Portal: Super Smash Bros.|Super Smash Bros.]]'' series, Toadsworth has been represented as a trophy and two stickers (from ''Super Mario Sunshine'' and ''Partners in Time'') in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'', a trophy in ''[[Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U|Super Smash Bros. for Wii U]]'' and a Novice-rank Support [[Spirit]] in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]''. His Support effect was to allow a player to start a battle with a [[Ramblin' Evil Mushroom]] equipped. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Toadsworth's Spirit would possess [[Mario]] in a battle filled with mushroom items.
*Toadsworth appears in ''[[Yakuman DS]]'' as a secret character and the most difficult of the game's opponents.
*He is also mentioned in ''[[Fortune Street]]'', by several Toads who fear what Toadworth would think of their actions, and by Peach who considers consulting him for financial advice.

*Unused voice clips for Toadsworth were found in ''[[Mario Party 8]]'', indicating that he was intended to appear in the game at some point.
*There was concept art of Toadsworth for ''The Super Mario Bros. Movie'', but he did not appear in the actual film.

*He speaks in an English accent and uses some generic English phrases in his dialogue.
*In ''Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time'', there are enemies called Shroobsworth, which is an obvious play on Toadsworth. Shroobsworth, however, comes with an intern, while Toadsworth does not .
*[[Goombella]] calls Toadsworth the steward of Peach's Castle in ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'', though he acts more like Peach's personal steward. He seems to have replaced the Chancellor from ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]'' and the Minister of Peach's Castle from ''[[Paper Mario]]''.
