'Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is a pair of Pokémon games made in the style of the Japanese Mystery Dungeon video games. There are two versions of the original game that were released at the same time: Red Rescue Team for the Game Boy Advance, and Blue Rescue Team for the DS.

Story

The player is woken by a Pokémon one day to discover that he has been transformed into a Pokémon. The player has no memories beyond the fact that he or she once lived as a human.

The world has been devastated by an unusual number of natural disasters lately and the pair are asked to help a Butterfree find her child, a Caterpie. After the rescue, the two form a Rescue Team together to solve the world's problems.

Gameplay

The game consists of a series of missions. The player can accept a mission, assemble a team of four, and carry out the mission. A successful mission will increase the teams rank as well as earn them a reward. Sometimes, there will be a chance to recruit a new Pokémon to the rescue team.

Connectivity

The two versions can connect with each other using the Wonder Mail feature. Using Wonder Mail, players can exchange missions.

Version Differences

Each version of the game has several exclusive Pokémon that can only be obtained in the other version using Wondermail codes. Additionally, Blue Rescue Team has a features that take advantage of the DS's two screens.

Legacy

This spawned a new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon subseries to the Pokémon games.
