Debut Super Paper Mario

Pixls are the partners in Super Paper Mario. Most of them are represented as geometric figures with eyes and some form of wings. Twelve Pixls can be found in the game, as well as a robotic replica of a Pixl.

The Pixls were created some 3,000 years ago by a master magician of the Tribe of the Ancients who had studied the Dark Prognosticus. The very first Pixl was the Pixl Queen, who was theorized to be the magician's daughter. The Pixls were created by taking the spirit of a deceased person and placing it within a specially-designed vessel. After the Pixl Queen, twelve more Pixls were created by this magician.

For the next millenium, the remaining Ancients created duplicates of the original twelve Pixls. They were used as tools to promote the growth of their society and allow them to build new worlds in other dimensions. Unlike common tools, however, the Pixls had their own personalities (most likely passed on from their previous existences).

At the end of this millenium, the Pixl Queen stormed the capital of the Ancients and took control of all the Pixls within, presumably appauled at the method through which she and other Pixls were created. The Pixls rebelled against their masters; the Ancients had grown so dependant upon them that they were left in disarray. They were then enslaved by their former tools.

The Pixl Uprising was ultimately quelled by twelve of the Ancients who possessed the original Pixls. Using Catch Cards to ensnare the Pixls, they made their way to the Pixl Queen's castle, but all fell save for a single member. When the last remaining Ancient faced the queen, she used the power of illusion to evade and torment him. His Pixl could see truth, however (possibly a precursor to Tippi) and helped him defeat the Pixl Queen, though it died in the process.

After this event, the creation of Pixls was outlawed within the Tribe of the Ancients and the Pixls were presumably left within the Catch Cards. The remaining eleven of the original twelve were scattered throughout the dimensions five hundred years later to wait for the coming of the legendary hero. Furthermore, since the Dark Prognosticus had had a role in the creation of Pixls, it was taken by the Ancient who had defeated the queen, possibly inciting the creation of the Tribe of Darkness.

1,500 years later, Merlon of Flipside broke the law against the creation of Pixls and turned Lady Timpani's spirit into the Pixl Tippi. He then sent her with Mario, the legendary hero, to stop Count Bleck and his plan to destroy the worlds. Along the way, they gathered the other eleven Pixls, who remained with Mario and co. even after the worlds had been saved.
