'''Makar''' is a supporting character and temporary  playable character in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker]]''. He is also the game's Wind Sage.

=Background=

Makar was among the many [[Korok]]s living within the [[Islands in The Wind Waker|Forest Haven]], under the protection of the [[Deku Tree]]. When he was born, the Deku Tree had given him a violin which the Deku Tree had said that people played long ago. After many long hours of practice, Makar learned to play the violin efficiently and became head of the musical performance at the Koroks' yearly festival. However, he was also known for his lateness due to his adventures he went on with his friend [[Characters in The Wind Waker|Linder]].

Linder and Makar's shortcuts led to an incident one day when Makar fell into the [[Islands in the Wind Waker|Forbidden Woods]] while en route to a Korok ceremony, where Makar was consumed by the boss monster [[Enemies in The Wind Waker#Bosses|Kalle Demos]]. However, he was eventually freed by the hero [[Link#Hero of Winds|Link]] after he defeated Makar. Makar than rushed to the ceremony and began his performance, playing even harder due to the presence of the boy whom had saved his life.

Afterwards, Makar retreated to his own solitary thinking spot, which was a grotto hidden behind a waterfall. However, Link was able to discover this area by following the sound of his playing. Link showed Makar the [[Wind Waker]], and Makar was impressed by the baton and wanted to see Link conduct a song. Link than conducted the Wind God's Aria for him, which led him to a vision of the previous Wind Sage [[Fado]] and awakened Makar as the new Wind Sage. He then asked to be guided to the Wind Temple to give power to the [[Master Sword]].

Together, Link and Makar traveled to the Wind Temple and navigated it. At one point Makar was captured, but Link was able to free him with a combination of the Hookshot and the Iron Boots. After the boss enemy was defeated, Makar was able to pray at the altar to restore power to the Master Sword and then remained in the temple to continue his prayers. In the game's ending, he was seen on the pirate ship with [[Medli]] and [[Aryll]] when they picked up Link and [[Tetra]] from the ocean. With [[Ganon]] defeated, Makar presumably returned to his life at Forest Haven.

=Trivia=

*Makar's name has several possible meanings. He is possibly named after the Makoré plant. "Makar" is also a Scottish term for a bard or poet, and his name may also be inspired by "makani", the Hawaiian term for wind.
*His figurine description describes his personality as "frivolous" and says that his instrument is actually a violin but commonly mistaken for a cello; in fact, the Deku Tree himself describes it as a cello at one point.
*A picture of Makar's face can be found hanging on a wall in [[Kakariko Village]] in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds|A Link Between Worlds]]'' and at the Miiverse Gallery in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes|Tri Force Heroes]]''.
*In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild|Breath of the Wild]]'', a lake surrounding the [[Korok Forest]] and an island within it are both named after Makar, known as Lake Mekar and Mekar Island. Additionally, a Korok Mask resembling Makar's face is available through the game's first DLC pack.
*A sticker of Makar appears in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''.
