Debut The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

The Magic Powder is a recurring item within several The Legend of Zelda games.

Information[edit]

As the name suggests, the Magic Powder is an enchanted powder that is kept within a satchel. The powder could be sprinkled upon objects and living creatures for a variety of random effects. These include setting objects on fire and transforming enemies. Most enemies are turned into Slimes by Magic Powder, although Buzz Blobs will transform into Cukemen, while Anti-Fairies will become Fairies. Magic Powder is usually brewed by witches, with a type of mushroom being the most essential ingredient. There are different limitations on Link's Magic Power depending on the game; the Magic Powder drains magic from the magic meter in A Link to the Past, while in Link's Awakening, Link has a limited amount of powder.

Appearances[edit]

In A Link to the Past, the Magic Powder is earned by giving Syrup a Mushroom from the Lost Woods. Once she has brewed it, her assistant will give Link the Magic Power. It is primarily optional as an item, although it is needed to awaken the Mad Batter. In Link's Awakening, the Magic Powder was made by Syrup with a Sleepy Toadstool and could also be won from the Trendy Game. Within this game, the Magic Powder was essential for restoring Tarin's true form following his transformation into a raccoon, and the powder could also be used to light torches. Link is initially limited to 20 uses of the powder, but the Mad Batter could double this to 40.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Hyrule Warriors, the Magic Power appears as an Item Card for the Koholint Island map for Adventure Mode that was initially available as part of the Link's Awakening DLC. The Magic Powder card could be used to light torches on some squares of the map to unlock more areas.

Trivia[edit]

  • The Magic Powder also has some bizarre applications in A Link to the Past. At Kakariko Village, it can transform one Cucco within a house into a human, while one sweeping lady outside can be transformed into a fairy by the power.
  • The Oracle games replaced the Magic Powder with Mystery Seeds, which have a very similar function.
