Klump
Debut Donkey Kong Country

The Klump is a recurring Kremling enemy that is easily identified by its girth, pink skin and, in most games, a helmet.

Information

The Klump first appears in Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land, where it is the first enemy that Diddy Kong will have trouble defeating. That is because the hard helmet worn by Klumps is strong enough to repel Diddy's jump attack, so in this game Klumps could only be defeated by Diddy with his cartwheel maneuver, although Donkey Kong could still eliminate a Klump like a normal enemy. They appear in the early jungle levels, as well as levels of Kremkroc, Inc. and the Chimp Caverns.

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, the Klumps are among the Kremlings conforming to the a pirate uniform. The pirate version of Klump is called Kannon, due to the miniature cannon that it carries around and uses to fire kannonballs and Diddy and Dixie Kong. Kannons usually remain stationary and fire kannonballs continuously, but they wear large pirate hats instead of their trademark helmets, which leaves them open to Diddy and Dixie's jump attacks.

The Klump returns to its original look in Donkey Kong 64, except that this game's Klumps are much more obese. They attack by lobbing explosive Oranges at the Kongs and sometimes eat the oranges as well, causing them to belch out puffs of smoke. The Klumps in this game ironically can only be defeated by tossing exploding Oranges at them.

A Klump also appears as an unlockable playable racer in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, and it serves as the Kremling rival for Lanky Kong. However, this Klump looked different from the classic Klumps due to having green skin and a barrel helmet in place of the classic hardhat.

Other Appearances

  • Klump also appeared as a character in the Donkey Kong Country cartoon. There he was one of King K. Rool's two main lackeys and a drill sergent-type guy. There was another character, the pirate Captain Scurvy, who somewhat resembled the Kannons from the second game. One episode revealed Klump and Scurvy to be long-lost brothers.
