Kecleon is a chameleon-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line, but it is unique due to its type-changing Color Change ability as well as its camouflage.

Kecleon is a Pokémon that can alter its body coloration to blend in with its surroundings and sneak up on prey. However, they cannot change the zigzag patterns on their bellies, and they will usually revert to their original color when startled. Kecleon also has the unique Color Change ability, which causes its type to automatically change to the type of the last attack that hit it. Kecleon also changes color when happy or sad. It attacks by ensnaring targets with its long, stretchy tongue.

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Kecleon could be rarely found at Routes 118, 119, 120, 121 and 123. Although they could be found normally in these areas, on Route 120 there were also six camouflaged Kecleon. They could only be revealed by using the Devon Scope, at which point they would be battled. One Kecleon also blocked the path to the gym at Fortree City, but this Kecleon would immediately flee without a battle when revealed.

In Diamond, Kecleon could appear at Route 210 when using the PokéRadar, while in Platinum, they could appear in the Great Marsh after obtaining the National Pokédex. When using the Pokéwalker, Kecleon was found at the Treehouse course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In Pokémon Channel, it was found at Mt. Snowfall in the evening and on cloudy or snowy nights. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it was at the Plains and was also featured in a bonus stage where it had to be knocked out several times in the Poké Ball, but it was camouflaged and had to be revealed by knocking Devon Scopes out of trees. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Huge Storage 3, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams as well as Explorers of Time and Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Kecleon ran shops in dungeons (as well as at Pokémon Square in the first game), and the only way to recruit them was by shoplifting from them. This would cause angry Kecleon to attack the player, although they are at high levels. In Pokémon Ranger, they appeared at Kisara Plains.

*In the Pokémon anime, Kecleon made several early appearances near the end of the Johto series. A Kecleon appeared in a Pikachu short and was never found in hide-and-seek due to being invisible. One episode also featured a pair of trainers with thieving Kecleon, and Brock was able to cure them of their motion sickness. Kecleon was also featured as part of Harrison's team at the Silver Conference. In an episode of the Battle Frontier series, a ninja trainer used a Kecleon to train other Pokémon in ninja-like arts. Kecleon have also appeared in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Explorers of Time and Darkness specials, and one Pokémon Chronicles special showed a Kecleon stealing food to feed an Azumarill's sick niece. They have also made other minor appearances.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Kecleon was the first Pokémon that Wally caught during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia
*Kecleon's name is a play on its Japanese name, which combines "kakureru" (which means "to hide") with "chameleon".
