'''Hector''' is one of the three man "lord" characters of ''[[Fire Emblem (game)|Fire Emblem]]'' and a supporting character in ''[[Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi]]''. A childhood friend of [[Eliwood]], Hector was known for being headstrong and carefree in his younger days. This often caused him to wander independently and most thought of him as little more than a lout. But after receiving new responsibilities when he became marquess of Ostia, he became more stern and serious.

=Background=

Hector was born to the marquess of Ostia. He taught himself how to fight; he would threaten his teachers in order to get away and sneak into the Arena, where he taught himself how to battle with an axe. This resulted in a unique yet deadly style which kept Hector in constant danger. At the age of seven, he met [[Eliwood]], son of Marquess Pherae, during a meeting of the Lycian League. They became fast friends and took a blood oath to protect each other forever. At the age of 12, Hector and Eliwood also began the tradition of meeting every two months to spar, although they both recalled different records several years later. Eventually, Hector's parents fell ill and died. Hector felt sad, but at the same time found himself unable to cry for them even when he was alone. His brother [[Characters in Fire Emblem 7#Uther|Uther]] became the new marquess of Ostia. Uther took on a fatherly role to Hector, but Hector constantly protested against being treated like a child.

==Fire Emblem==

Hector is first seen in "Chapter 7: The Children of Destiny", where he waits in a house in Khathelet to meet with Eliwood for another of their matches. One year later, Eliwood embarked on a journey to search for his missing father, and Hector wanted to help. He attempted to convince Uther to attack Laus, as it seemed to be connected to Elbert's disappearance. Uther refused, so Hector chose to sneak out in "Another Journey" (Hector Chapter 11) so that he could travel with Eliwood and help him in his quest. [[Matthew]] managed to help Hector escape and convinced Hector to let him accompany him, although Hector was reluctant to do this since Matthew was one of Uther's spies. So Hector appointed Matthew his own vassal. However, Uther became aware of Hector's departure and decided to let him go, but he also sent [[Oswin]] and [[Serra]] to accompany Hector and protect him.  They rendezvoused with Eliwood's group near Santaruz in "Chapter 12: Birds of a Feather" and traveled together. 

In "Chapter 13: False Friends", rumors emerged which suggested that Eliwood's father was supporting [[Characters in Fire Emblem 7#Darin|Darin]]'s plans for rebelling against Ostia as the dominant power of the Lycian League. Oswin found he could no longer serve Hector in searching for Lord Elbert if this were the case because it would be forbidden by his service to Uther. But instead Oswin chose to swear his service to Hector as well, so he could continue to serve Hector in the journey. So they continued the search with the aid of an Ostian spy, [[Leila]], and they were later joined by the Caelin noble [[Lyn]] in "Whereabouts Unknown" (Eliwood Chapter 16, Hector Chapter 17).  Hector and Lyn got into some arguments, but Lyn also saw a more caring side of him later on. They traveled to the Dread Isle, where Eliwood's father was being held prisoner by [[Nergal]], whom had engineered Darin's actions in order to gather large amounts of quintessence. There they found Leila dead, and Hector was much saddened by this. The life of Lord Elbert was also taken during the ensuing encounter with Nergal.

Afterwards, Eliwood and Hector's company retreated to Ostia in order to plan their next move in "Kinship's Bond" (Eliwood Chapter 21, Hector Chapter 22). Lord Uther ultimately directed them to the Nabata Desert and meet with the living legend there. This turned out to be [[Athos]] the Archsage, whom Hector dubbed Graybeard. Athos sent them to the Shrine of Seals in Bern as the first step in finding a method of defeating Nergal. In order to find it, they had to battle the [[Black Fang]], the guild of assassins that was being manipulated by Nergal. Eliwood felt sympathy for the Black Fang members, since most were doing what they thought were right, but Hector hated them all since it was a Black Fang assassin that killed Leila. When the assassin [[Jaffar]] (ironically the very man whom had killed Leila) was accepted into Eliwood's company after reforming, Hector made it clear that he didn't trust Jaffar and let him live only so Hector could make him suffer later on.

At the same time, Hector remained concerned about his brother's wellbeing. He was willing to abandon the journey if anything happened to Uther, so that he could be by his side, so he kept asking Oswin about messages from his brother, but Oswin continued to report that Uther was in good health. After arriving at the Shrine of Seals in "Cog of Destiny" (Eliwood Chapter 27, Hector Chapter 29), Athos brought them down to see [[Characters in Fire Emblem 7#Bramimond|Bramimond]], and they convinced him to life the seals over the legendary weapons hidden across Elibe. The next day, Athos took Hector out to search for the thunder axe, Armads, in the Western Isles in "The Berserker" (Hector Chapter 30). This axe filled him with great power. However, soon afterwards Eliwood retrieved the flame sword Durandal and got a chance to use it against a dragon. The weapon seemed to have a mind of its own and moved automatically to kill the dragon, who turned out to be their friend [[Ninian]]. This caused both Eliwood and Hector to distrust their weapons and hand them over to Lord Athos. 

They soon decided to engage Nergal in a final battle on Valor Island, after a battle with Nergal's forces at Ostia in "The Sands of Time" (Eliwood Chapter 28, Hector Chapter 31). At this time, Hector was able to guess the truth about his brother: Uther had died, of the same illness that took his parents. Oswin had kept this a secret at Uther's beckoning, so that Hector would not be forced to choose between helping Eliwood or Uther. Hector was angry at this and refused to forgive Oswin, but it seemed he eventually softened up to Oswin later on. Before leaving for Valor, he returned to the empty throne room and paid his last respects to his brother. They eventually attacked Nergal's stronghold in "Final Chapter: Light". Hector wielded Armads once again and rejected Nergal's attempt to tempt Hector by promising to revive a morph of Uther. Nergal was killed in the following battle, but he summoned several dragons with his dying words. They were able to destroy the dragon, but Athos had exhausted his power and died soon afterwards.

Hector then returned Armads to its resting place in the Western Isles before returning to Ostia, but he still felt the axe's power within him afterwards. One year later, he was inaugurated as marquess of Ostia. Depending on the ending, he married either Lyn, [[Florina]] or [[Farina]]. Several years later, they had a daughter named [[Lilina]]. Hector grew to become an enlightened and powerful ruler of Ostia. He did not see Eliwood for fifteen years afterwards. When they were reunited, Eliwood and Hector introduced their children, who were the same age and became fast friends. They also talked about current events in Bern involving [[Zephiel]]'s sudden taking of the throne, which reminded them of a prophecy made by Athos in his dying words which said that a bloody war would start from a dark star rising in Bern. However, they also remembered the other part of the prophecy as they watched [[Roy]] and Lilina playing, that hope would once more come from Lycia.

==Fuuin no Tsurugi==

Twenty years after ''Fire Emblem'', Hector led the Lycian army in order to defend against Bern during the war. But Hector was taken by surprise when Bern attacked with dragon riders. With the aid of two of the dragon lords, Hector's forces were overwhelmed at Castle Araphen, and he was captured and imprisoned at the beginning of "Chapter 3: Late Arrival". 

Hector was sent to the dungeons until Roy and his companions saved Hector at the end of the chapter. However, Hector had suffered a serious wound and was dying. With his dying words, he told Roy to take command of the Lycian army in his place and to take care of Lilina, regretting that he would not see her again.

*'''Eliwood-''' In the first Support conversation, Hector meets up with Eliwood just to check up on his wellbeing. They talk about their sparring matches and each recall different records for their battles, although Eliwood reminds Hector that he had slept through numbers class so Eliwood's record was more likely to be accurate. In the second conversation, Hector tells Eliwood about some troubling dreams he had, and they felt like long-past memories. He says that in the dreams a bearded man was looking after her daughter, and Eliwood has him recall the hair color of the man and woman, and Eliwood concludes that the dream is actually foretelling Hector's future. Hector then recalls his daughter being taken away in the dream by a Pherean boy with red hair, so he gets angry at Eliwood and walks out on him. In the third conversation, Eliwood reminds Hector of their first meeting and the blood oath they made to protect each other. They decide not to break their oaths, not even in old age. Eliwood tells Hector to stay alive, and Hector warns Eliwood not to die before him.
*'''Farina-''' Hector confronts Farina (whom had convinced Hector to hire her for 20,000 gold) and tells her that he found out she was being grossly overpaid, as mercenaries were paid by the battle and Farina should have received something closer to 4,000 gold. Farina attempts to make excuses for her higher pay, then she departs, telling Hector she is going off to earn her pay. In the next conversation, Hector notices Farina seems tired and tells her to rest, but she thinks it is a trick to swindle her out of her pay and tries to walk out on home. During Hector's attempt to intervene, Farina falls from her pegasus onto Hector, causing him to remember the time Florina fell on him. Farina then thinks that Hector is trying to turn the three sisters into his mistresses and gets angry that mercenaries are treated as objects. In the final conversation, Farina collapses and Hector takes care of her. She then plans to go back into action, but Hector has her continue resting by convincing her that he cares about her and not about lowering her wage.
*'''Florina-''' The first conversation is almost total silence, and at one point Florina starts to stay something to Hector, but she quickly stops. In the second conversation, Florina tries rehearsing thanking Hector for saving her life the time she was shot down by Bauker's men, but when Hector walks in on her she panics and runs away. In the third conversation Hector confronts Florina to find out why she's always running away from him, and Florina tells him and thanks him. Hector decides to keep Florina nearby on the battlefield so she did not get into trouble, and when she starts crying happily Hector tells her to stop.
*'''Lyn-''' Lyn had heard of Eliwood and Hector's sparring matches, and she asks Hector to spar with her for a change. Lyn loses, but she endeavors to defeat him. She says its nothing personal against Hector, but she wants to learn to overcome her limits so she is not a burden to Eliwood and Hector. But Hector assures Lyn that fighting isn't everything, causing Lyn to suspect that Hector was gentler at heart than he seemed.
*'''Matthew-''' Matthew is eager to serve Hector, although Hector becomes angry when he realizes that Matthew has been storing his rations in Hector's bag, and he laments having "lame henchmen". Afterwards, Matthew offers to join Hector on the front lines, and Hector reluctantly allows him but instructs him not to overdo it. In the third conversation, Matthew says he had a change of heart on this journey which has prompted him to fight the enemy directly instead of sneaking around in the back lines. Hector then challenges Matthew to a sparring match, but Matthew is too afraid to go through with it.
*'''Oswin-''' Hector is bothered by Oswin's constant presence and asks him to help the others, but Oswin refuses to break Lord Uther's orders and leave Hector's side. In the second conversation, Oswin is impressed by Hector's fighting style and asks him where he learned how to fight, at which point Hector talks about his time in the ring. Oswin threatens to tell Uther about this, unless Hector agrees to never battle in the ring again, and Hector reluctantly swears himself to it. In the final conversation, Hector apologizes for being a burden to Oswin, but Oswin says that he has learned much about Hector and is actually thankful for the time he's spent protecting Hector.
*'''Serra-''' In the first conversation, Serra demands that Hector thank her for coming on the journey even though Hector had ordered her to remain in Ostia, but Hector refuses to thank her for disobeying orders. Serra demands better treatment due to being the only sister in the army, but Hector considers replacing her. In the second conversation, Hector asks Serra if anyone could use a staff of St. Elimine, and Serra wound up telling Hector about her noble heritage and her childhood. In the final conversation, Hector finds that the orphanage was the one in Ostia which was rebuilt when Uther became marquess. Serra recounts how harsh her life was but also spoke of her hopes that her parents would return for her. Hector tells Serra that she could talk to him or Oswin if she ever needed anything, and he told her they would be her family until her real parents returned.
