Enguarde is a swordfish with a recurring presence as an animal buddy in the Donkey Kong Country series. He acts as the Kongs' only aquatic protector, and he is almost like an underwater version of Rambi in that Enguarde's sharp bill can cut through most obstacles (except for those involving spikes).
Background[edit]
Enguarde first appeared to aid Donkey Kong and Diddy in the aquatic levels of Donkey Kong Country. Enguarde also served a similar purpose of helping the Kongs during the battles on Crocodile Island in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (and Donkey Kong Land 2). Enguarde's next appearance in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's Double Trouble was notable in that Enguarde had his own battle with a boss character in the form of Barbos.
