Drifloon is a balloon Pokémon appearing in the fourth-generation Pokémon games.

Information[edit]

Drifloon is an odd Pokémon that resembles a purple living balloon. It is said to be formed by the spirits of humans and Pokémon. They love damp and hot seasons. There is a darker side to this Pokémon, as Drifloon seek to steal children away and take them to the underworld, although they are so light that they usually wind up being tugged by the children instead. Drifloon floats around aimlessly, often at the mercy of the winds or the children it attempts to abduct, and has become known as the "Signpost for Wandering Spirits" in old folktales.

Drifloon evolves into Drifblim at Level 28.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, one Drifloon appears per week at the Valley Windworks on Fridays from midnight until nighttime, as that is the only time of the week that the fans of the Valley Windworks work in the precise way to bring in a Drifloon.

Other Games[edit]

Drifloon appears in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, where it is found in the first forty-nine floors of the Sky Stairway. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Drifloon are found in the Volcano Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appears at the Sky and the Light Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Windy Prairie. Drifloon also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Haunted Zone as well as the Granite Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • Drifloon has appeared in several episodes of the Pokémon anime's Diamond & Pearl seasons. One episode featured a group of Drifloon that belong to the daughters of a Nurse Joy. Fantina was also shown to have a Drifloon in one episode, which evolved during her battle with Ash Ketchum.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Drifloon appeared in a chapter of the Diamond/Pearl arc, where it was a friend of a worker at the Valley Windworks.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "drift" and "balloon".
  • Although the detail was not mentioned in the American Pokémon entries likely due to censorship, the Japanese Diamond Pokédex entry as well as the Super Smash Bros. Brawl trophies (including the English version) mention Drifloon specifically trying to take children to the land of the dead/the underworld.
