Deerling is a small deer-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. Its evolved form is Sawsbuck. Deerling and Sawsbuck are unique for having four different forms depending on the season.
Information
Deerling is a small Pokémon that changes with the seasons and so is used to mark the passage of the seasons. This is because the color and the scent of its fur changes to match the grass in its environment, which is usually a mountain. This allows the Deerling to hide in nearby grass when it senses hostility.
Thus, it has one form for each season: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Deerling evolves into Sawsbuck at Level 34.
Appearances
Mainstream Games
In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Deerling commonly appeared at Routes 6 and 7 and outside Dragonspiral Tower. Each Deerling form appeared only during its corresponding season.
Other Appearances
Other Media
- In the Pokémon anime, Deerling have made various appearances starting in the Unova series, most of them minor and often appearing in herds. Ash tried to catch a Deerling from a herd in one episode, but failed. A Deerling was also the only known Pokémon of the kindergarten teacher Daniela in one episode.
Trivia
- Its name is a simple combination "deer" with "-ling" (a suffix which signifies a young one) or possibly "sapling" (due to it being part Grass-type).
