Combusken is a flaming fowl-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the middle form of Torchic's evolutionary line and evolves into Blaziken.

Information

Combusken evolves from Torchic at Level 16. They toughen up their legs and thighs by running through fields and mountains. Combusken's legs are both swift and powerful, which allows it to perform up to ten kicks in one second. Combusken has a strong fighting instinct which compels it to continue fighting until its enemy is down. It also attacks with destructive flames that it releases from its beak and has a loud and distracting cry which boosts its own concentration. The hot flame burning in its body also increased during battle.

It evolves into Blaziken at Level 36.

Combusken has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Torchic.

Other Games

It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Endless Level 7, Endless Level 18, Forever Level 56 and Mr. Who's Den. It could be recruited in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams at the twenty-second through twenty-ninth floors of Fiery Field and in Explorers of Time and Darkness at the first nineteen floors of Giant Volcano, the first fifteen basement floors of Dark Crater and the first eighteen basement floors of Dark Crater Pit. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Lyra Forest. Combusken also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Faldera Island.

• In the Pokémon anime, May's Torchic evolved into a Combusken after it tried to assert itself due to being jealous of May's Beautifly. It was aggressive to prove itself at first but eventually mellowed down. May used it for most of her contests, and it evolved into Blaziken towards the end of the Battle Frontier series during a fight with Team Rocket.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Sapphire's Torchic evolved into a Combusken prior to her match against Brawly. She used it for many of her following battles and trained it vigorously, and it eventually evolved during her battle with Winonya.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "combustion" (which is a way in which something bursts into flames) with "chicken".
