Claydol is a mysterious clay doll-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the evolved form of Baltoy.

Information[edit]

Claydol evolves from Baltoy at Level 36. It is a mysterious Pokémon, known as an enigma, and it is said that they are dolls that have been made of mud by ancient humans which came to life upon exposure to a mysterious ray. Claydol's origin is an ancient civilization which dates back 20,000 years. Claydol uses telekinesis to float and move around. They can shoot beams from both of their hands, with their arms being separate from their bodies.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Claydol was found somewhat commonly at the Sky Pillar. In Black and White, it was the only Pokémon found in the sanctum on the bottom floor of the Relic Castle.

Other Games[edit]

Claydol could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Endless Level 17, Forever Level 66, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkess, it could be recruited at Sky Stairway. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Hippowdon Temple. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Oblivia Ruins and the Thunder Temple. Claydol also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Lava Zone and the Granite Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Claydol was first featured in an episode of the Hoenn series in which an ancient giant Claydol had been sealed within a giant stone Poké Ball by a wizard years ago. It wreaked havoc after being released by an unwitting Team Rocket, until it was recaptured through the efforts of Ash's group with a new giant Poké Ball. The Coordinator Robert also used one at the Hoenn Grand Festival, and during the Battle Frontier series one was used by Spenser. One Sinnoh episode featured a Claydol guarding a treasure at Lily of the Treasure Island until it was captured by Buck. They have also made minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Claydol have mostly made minor appearances until the Platinum series, where one was featured as Buck's main Pokémon.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on "clay doll" and could also refer to "idol" and "dreidel" (which is a Jewish toy that spins, similarly to Baltoy in particular).
