Bidoof live in large groups near water. They constantly gnaw on logs and boulders around their nests to whittle down their beaver-like front teeth. Comparisons have shown that Bidoof's teeth grow at the same rate at Rattata's, although the implications of this are certain. Bidoof has nerves of steel so that nothing can really perturb it. Despite appearing to be fat, Bidoof is actually quite agile and active.

It evolves into Bibarel at Level 15.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Bidoof could be recruited at the Mystifying Forest and Mystery Jungle. A non-playable Bidoof was also shown as a rookie member of the Wigglytuff Guild, and this Bidoof was playable in a special episode within Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs where it met Jirachi and was shown to have the respect of the rest of the guild. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Vientown and Ranger School, and one member of Team Dim Sun known as Wheeler notably has nine Bidoof which he used for battle. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Hinder Cape. In Pokémon Rumble, it could be found at Windy Prairie. Bidoof also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Meadow Zone.

*In the Pokémon anime, Bidoof have made various primarily minor appearances throughout the Sinnoh series. One episode featured Ash's group as well as Team Rocket protecting a Bidoof village from a rampaging Steelix.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a group of Bidoof were featured in one chapter of the Diamond/Pearl arc where they attacked Platina's hotel room. It turned out that this was because the nearby construction had gotten rid of most of the trees they usually gnawed on, so Diamond was able to eventually satiate them by luring them to a golden Staravia statue which they could gnaw on in peace.

Trivia
*Its name seems to be a combination of "beaver" with "doofus" (due to it appearing to be dim-witted).
