The '''Aquamentus''' is a one-horned recurring boss from the ''[[Portal: The Legend of Zelda|The Legend of Zelda]]'' series that is notable as being the first boss in the series.

=Information=

The Aquamentus is a winged reptilian creature that resembles a mix between a dragon and a unicorn. It is distinguished by the horn on its head, but this horn is also its weak point. Aquamentus has usually attacked primarily by spitting fireballs, although in its later appearance it could also dash as enemies.

In ''The Legend of Zelda'', it appeared as the boss for the Eagle Labyrinth, the first dungeon, and it reappeared later on as the boss of the Demon Labyrinth. Aquamentus was also notably the only boss to appear in ''[[Zelda Game & Watch]]'', where it was always faced at the end of a dungeon and could be destroyed with a well-placed [[bomb]]. The Aquamentus's only other appearance was in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons|Oracle of Seasons]]'' as the boss of the Gnarled Root Dungeon, which was also that game's first dungeon. In both games, Aquamentus would be defeated after sustaining enough attacks on its horn.

*An Aquamentus made a brief appearance in an episode of the ''Zelda'' cartoon. It had a brief struggle with Link before Zelda destroyed it with a bomb. This version of Aquamentus had a size and shape that were closer to that of a normal horse, making it more unicorn-like than than its more monstrous game sprite.

*Its name is Latin for "water mind", but this has little relevance to the actual creature.
*There is inconsistency within versions of the original instruction manual about the type of species Aquamentus is. The Japanese manual describes it as "a unicorn that can be called a type of dragon", while the American manual implies that it is a type of dragon that can be called a unicorn.
*Although it has been depicted with wings, Aquamentus has not been shown to be capable of flight.
*In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild|Breath of the Wild]]'', there are two connected locations in Central Hyrule that are named after Aquamentus: Aquame Lake and Aquame Bridge.
