Anorith is a prehistoric Pokémon that has lived in warm seas. It has two large claws which it uses to firmly grip its prey. Anorith is actually described as a type of ancestral Pokémon and has eight feet which transformed into wings over time. This helped Anorith to adapt to life in the ocean, as it undulates these wings to swim freely through the ocean.

Anorith evolves into Armaldo at Level 40.

In Pokémon: Ruby and Sapphire, the player can find a Claw Fossil and Root Fossil at Route 111 and can only pick one, with the other sinking into the quicksand. In Emerald, the choice was instead made at the Mirage Tower, and the other fossil could be found at the end of the Desert Underpass. In all three versions of this generation, the Claw Fossil could be revived at Devon Corporation in Rustboro City. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, all of the fossils from the first three generations had a chance of being found in the Underground, although Claw Fossils were more common than Root Fossils in Diamond. The fossils could be revived at the Oreburgh Mining Museum in Oreburgh City.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, fossils had a chance of appearing when smashing rocks at the Cliff Cave, although the Claw and Root Fossils only could appear after the National Pokédex was unlocked. They could be revived at Pewter City's museum. In Black and White, the player had a chance of receiving one of the fossils from the first four generations from a minor at Twist Mountain at random on a daily basis, and the fossils were revived at Nacrene Museum.

*In the Pokémon anime, Anorith has mostly made minor appearances. One episode showed Anorith among Pokémon living at an Island of Fossil Pokémon.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Anorith was featured in a chapter of the Ruby/Sapphire arc where an Anorith and Lileep broke free at Professor Cozmo's laboratory, although Ruby was able to beat both of them while trying to conceal his skill at commanding Pokémon.

Trivia
*Its name is a combination of "Anomalocaris" (which describes an extinct species of shrimp which Anorith was likely based on) with "lith" (which refers to rocks, most likely due to its typing).
