Ambi is the ancient queen of Labrynna who was featured in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages.

Background[edit]

Queen Ambi ruled Labyrnna four hundred years into the past of Oracle of Ages. She once had a boyfriend, and the two were deeply in love, but he was a seafaring man and eventually set out to sea. He never returned, so the queen began building Ambi's Tower to be the tallest tower, so that she would be able to find him wherever he was. Everything changed when the Oracle of Ages, Nayru, arrived and began giving advice to Ambi. Ambi was unaware that Nayru was actually possessed by the sorceress Veran, which caused the advice to be corrupt. Nayru used her powers to give Labrynna an endless day in which Ambi could force the villagers to endlessly toil on the construction of the tower. This caused it to be known as the Black Tower.

Nayru's influence even caused Ambi to exile her loyal adviser Aldar. She accepted gifts from the villagers with promise of pardoning them if they brought her something she desired, but she sometimes went back on her word and still forced them to work on the tower. One of the items she collected was Mystery Seeds at Nayru's request, which was actually because those seeds were Veran's weakness. Link once came to her baring Mystery Seeds, and she thanked him by giving him Bombs. Link later exorcised Veran's spirit from Nayru's body when Ambi was away from the palace. However, Ambi arrived just at the end of the encounter, and she was briefly surprised by Nayru's sudden niceness. Veran's spirit than possessed Ambi to continue controlling Labrynna. With Veran in control, construction of the Black Tower reached completion, and her reign became even more openly cruel.

Ralph traveled back in time to attempt to stop Veran, even if at the cost of Ambi's (and his own) life, but he could not bring himself to do the deed. Instead, it was Link who drove Veran out of Ambi's body atop the Black Tower. Ambi came to her senses and fled from the tower. Ambi actually returned with knights from the palace to try to help Link after he was sealed in the tower, but the ordeal was over by the time she arrived. Ambi formally met with Ralph, who was her descendant, but she was annoyed when Ralph called her granny due to her youth. Ambi thanked Link for everything he had done and also commended Ralph for his courage, assuring him that he would become the pride of her people. Ambi also told Nayru that she was welcome to return at any time. In a linked Ages game, she and Ralph kept an eye on the town while Link was saving Princess Zelda.

In a linked Oracle of Seasons game, Ambi had Nayru send her on "an eye-opening journey to different lands and different ages", which coincidentally brought her to Holodrum in the present age during Link's adventure through that land. She was traveling alone, but she considered it to be just another of the queen's roles. She did not seem to enjoy Holodrum that much due to how fickle its seasons seemed to be (although this was actually Onox's doing), but she admired the Sunken City and considered making her palace sunken as well. Ambi ended up in Subrosia and would enter the pirate's home after the Stalfos Captain retrieved his bell. The Captain was the man whom had left her so long ago, although it is unclear whether or not he was a Stalfos at the time. They had a brief, tender reunion, but Ambi understood that he had to return to the sea. Ambi resolved to act as his port of call and await him whenever he decided to return to land.

Trivia[edit]
